I have been playing now for about 9 mos and not a very long hitter off the tee box. I have a 3 and 4 iron that I hit inconsistent at best. I am thinking that if could the hit long irons better I would have a safer second shot snd hit more greens. I tend to hit fat most of the time or my tempo is too fast I have been told. thanks, any help greatly appreciated.

Re: new to forum and new to golf
Hi hydestik,
Your problems with the long irons is not uncommon. Most casual golfers do not hit those clubs very well. It's the length and more so the low lofts, which exaggerates any limitations or flaws in the swing, resulting in tops, fats, slices, etc. Also, if you lack clubhead speed, it would be more difficult to get height in the flight.
You may be able to get better with those clubs, as you improve your swing, but regardless as you may end up there eventually anyways, a simpler solution may be to get some hybrids to replace the long irons. Many golfers have found them to be a Godsend. You cannot believe how effective they are. Even the pros have these in the bags now, as you will notice on the telecasts.
You will see many endorsements, if you do a search for other threads for "hybrids". I started with a 4 hybrid, which I hit farther, with more accuracy, and with more height than the replaced iron. The first time I hit a ball with it, it was like "Wow". I often hit the hybrid on short or tight par four tee shots, and still get a good distance.
