    hiya guys

im new to the site and reletively new to playing golf and am desperate for some advice on what i am doing wrong when i play. now im ok with pw, 9i,8i. the problem is if i try to hit a longer club, firstly it will go the same distance as the others(100yrds pw, 130yrds 9i and 150yrds 8i), and also it just goes miles right (slice big time).now i have watched loads of videos online and probably scrambled my brain with to much info. I know that i am gripping the club correctly and feel my posture and balance is ok. So if somebody could tell me what im doing wrong i would be truly gratefull. i have tried closing the face and this works slighty but results in a lot of miss hits. the second problem is the distance, i went to the range yesterday and was trying to hit my 3i and they were all slicing badly. i tried closing the face and managed to hit a lot straighter but the furthest i hit was only about 160-170yrds.why is this because i have tryed swinging smooth and easy and i have tryed giving it a whack and both results in the same.also if i hit off the deck then it seems to go straight but if i use a tee then i get a huge slice.any help

    thanks

    Re: urgent help

hi mate, this is like any other beginners crying. Good is that you slicing, it shows that you can use your hips properly. Try to swing more softly, especially up and slow start downswing. The club must accelerate through the ball.Never try to correct your ball flight with closing face or any other club movement, try to hit the ball always square
First of all you might to come and see some teaching pro, it will help for sure.
Your distance is right just for PW, about hundred yards will good enough if you can hit the target. 150 yards for 8i is too much for now, I guess. When you can hit a wedge for 100y repeatedly and pretty straight, you can continue with other clubs. Add a five or ten yards more with every higher club. 3 iron is bloody difficult to hit even for long time players. Optimum distance for mid handicaper is about 170 to 190 yards with 3 iron. Especially with driving range balls, they just not able to fly real distance like original golf ball.Don“t think about distance yet, now you have to try to hit the ball solidly and straight first.-) after you will have some skill with short irons, you can try the longer ones. Never try to hit the ball like pros on tour, this is something completely different.
I am 37 years old, six feet tall 150 pounds, 11HDC and try to play this game for more than thirteen years. My seven iron is safe until 140 yards, for longer shots with 7i, must swing harder and this is not safe at all. My shots are pretty high and straight, but sometimes I can hook the ball over two fairways, as well.
be patient and never be hesitate to ask, but be carefull who will answer, some help can hurt too. Good luck
    martin

      Re: urgent help

thanks for your reply martin i will give your advice a go on the driving range. i have only played 2 rounds on a real golf course and i must say golf is the most frustrating game i have ever played (also the best).i mean the amount of times i played 3 off the tee was unbeleivable, in the end i was hitting 8i's of the tee. i just wish i could hit a longer club atleast straight because my short game is pretty good especially my putting, and from 150yrs in i feel pretty comfortable but anything over that is a problem.i have shot 117 both times i have played and if i can just hit a 200yrd drive straight i would shave 15 strokes off of that
