My wife is interested in golf and so we are looking for a decent starter set of clubs. A friend of hers has a set of Mizuno Altron irons, an extra putter (I don't know the brand but it looks decent with an offset head) and two drivers (3 and 7) with a bag. The guy wants $100 for it all minus the putter she doesn't want. The clubs are OK and would clean up nicely. Thoughts?

Re: Hello! New to the site and a question to the group
Hi Ben,
This may be a redundant question, but are the clubs women's clubs? You said the seller is a "he".
It's extremely important that the set be for women, i.e., ladies' flex. length, etc., particularly for a beginner. That is not to say that there are not women who could use stiff shafts, but that's as they get stronger and more proficient.
Regarding the clubs, they seem to be from the mid '80's era, according to some the the following links.

If the bag is good and the grips do not require replacing, it's not a bad price, particularly if the shafts are graphite. If the grips have to be replaced, you are looking at an additional cost, and you can do better.

Hi Ben,
The heads may say medium, but what is the flex of the shafts? The flex should be somewhere on the shaft. "L" is the usual designation, distinct from "Lite", "A", and the other usual "R", "S" and such.
