  • What starts the downswing

Been reading a lot of golf instructional books. While its true that one should only have one master, I would like to have an informed opinion from you guys. The majority of instruction starts the downswing from the ground up. I have read a few that starts the downswing with the arms driving straight down simultaneous with the body turning. By the way, am currently using the arms initiated downswing.

    Begging for an enlightment.

The swing model I follow starts the downswing with a pulling lead-side oblique.

Actually, the oblique is exactly what I want engaged - to promote rotation.

Didn't your mom ever teach you if you have nothing nice to say, then don't say anything?

Now, Now Girls!! Don't panic it's only a Golf Forum

OK back to the OP. A good way to consider the start of the downswing is that it happens in the backswing. Just before reaching the top of the backswing good players start to settle their weight back onto their lead foot.

Shawn's Video show this so well:
