Re: right side pain in rib cage
Hi there mate,
I did the same to myself around ten years ago. I can tell you it was extremley painful as iam sure you wel know.
The degree of pain I was in was on a scale of 1 to 10, 10 being most severe. I was 9. I couldn't swing a club for around 2 months.
Unfortunatly, you will just need to take it easy if your on the same scale I was.
Good luck

Re: right side pain in rib cage
Solution is to stretch prior to warming up...stand straight and tall, raise the arms straight above the head and grasp your fingers together, then slowly and easily arch to the side and hold that position, return back and arch to the other side.
I think this is what yoga calls the half-moon?
This will really help you now and in the future.

Re: right side pain in rib cage
OMG..this exact thing happened to me last year...I was in terrible pain. So much so when I finally got to the Drs. office she had to give me a shot of Morphine. I refused to quit playing as our season is so short here. Every time I hit the ball I would cringe in pain. The worse the swing the worse it hurt. Many times I would actually scream out in pain but kept on playing. This put me right back in her office and another shot of Morphine. I tried all the muscle relaxants, anti inflammatories, heat and cold treatments but to no avail. This started the first week of July and I finally gave up on golf August 13 due to exhaustion with this on-going pain.
I figured out what triggered it..After a set of lessons which I was continually mis-hitting ball after ball off the turf trying to learn how to use my driver more effectively the pain started in the front of my ribs on right side. As I kept on the range day after I finally pushed it too far and that's what did me in...The pain did not leave me totally until the last week of Feb this year. I was so afraid it wouldn't get better by this season. Thankfully it did. Would not wish this on my worst enemy.
As a matter of fact this pic of me in my avatar was taken when the pain was at its worst. We were on holidays..had to keep going.
I hope you heal soon. Please listen to your body and don't push it. Not worth it
Take care
Jo
