"Be water." The most interesting thing I have heard in weeks. Very inspirational. The master speaking:

"Now the grip ladies & gentlemen is really not a grip, it's a touch-it grip...You don't grip, you touch...When you place you hands on the club shaft grip, you should always be loose, boneless, muscleless, effortless, because when you are you can mentally control the club head..." - Count Yogi

"Never force a shot. Stroke smoothly and effortlessly...You will become a much better player if you strive for a smooth, effortless stroke rather than trying to see how far you can hit with a certain club. Strive for smoothness and accuracy-not distance. A rhythmic swing, not power, provides distance and accuracy." - Count Yogi.

You have 4 major brain waves, alpha (relaxing) , beta (focusing/conentrating), theta (creative/daydreaming), delta (sleeping).

I have heard that the elite pro's (such as Tiger) have mastered the ability to turn on both beta and alpha (can focus while at a relaxed state), while many amatuers and even the lower tier pro's have a hard time using the alpha and the beta, it is usually more of a see-saw, one goes up the other goes down. The lack of alpha is where yips, tension, inaccuracies, and inconsitancies usually come from.

I think Mike Austin was lacking in the alpha. He had a very efficient swing and was strong, but he also had an insane adrenaline and he could use that adrenaline. He used to box and I heard they made him stop because his adrenaline was getting to unsafe levels and he had a very high heartrate. That is why I heard his short game sucked, he couldn't relax for the finess shots. I think he was relaxed during the full swing, it was the short game that made him lose all relaxation.

This is my guess anyways, I would like to have seen him hooked up to a machine as well as count, I bet that guy had would have broken the machine with his alpha waves lol.

Why didn't count yogi win much, did he have a bad short game too? I don't know too much about him.

From what I have read, the Count was an absolute killer with his wedges and putter. I seem to have read that the PGA was against him because he was Jewish, i.e., not lily-white. I am not an expert on him, just a fan, so I could be wrong.

The brain wave information is interesting.

Do the theta waves activate when one is visualizing their impending shot?

Hey, whatever happened to the originator of this post, Metaphorgolf?

not sure where Metaphorgolf, he know quite a bit about Mike Austin and Count Yogi.

I just saw a show on the brain things, I am no expert on it, but using the theta for visualizing a shot makes sense, I sure that can help a golfer relax and cencentrate when they know what they are doing.

That is too bad about Yogi if that is true about him. I would have gues muslim before jewish. The same is true about Austin, his short game wasn't stellar, but he still one a bunch of matches, but do to his crotchedy personality he rubbed people the wrong way and gambled (which was frowned upon) and he embarrased some people, he kind of got brushed under the rug and his technique with him. I have heard of him doing bets like beating people one handed, left handed (he is a right handes player) out driving them with putters you name it, he probly bet someone on it AND won.

Here is I very interesting read I stumbled upon you might like.
                http://smashgolf.wordpress.com/about-me/

He is a recent Austin convert and his swing is SO dead nuts on Austinology.

I don't think he ever heard of Yogi, and there really arn't any good videos of him online. this guy doesn't even have and Austing DVD's, he learned from watching videos online, he has a very keen eye.
