  • Getting Out Of The Thick Rough

I recently read an article that talked about the keys to getting out of the thick rough. I actually used them today and they really work. Karrie Webb passed on this advice during a golf tips segment she did here in Australia not that long ago.

What they both advise is that it helps to play more of an outside to inside golf swing when your ball in sitting in thick rough. Take an extra club, hopefully with enough loft to carry the ball the correct distance. Lastly, ensure you hit down and through the golf ball.

Interested to hear from any members who have had success playing out of the rough this way?

    Cheers

Good tip KA. An out to in swing with the face slightly open works well from the rough with irons as the grass tends to grip the clubhead and pull it closed, keeping it a little open then hitting O-T-I will help square up the clubface through the rough.

I like to use a hybrid where I can in the rough as its wide and shallow head cuts better through the grass than an iron.

I use a 4 hybrid when my ball is sitting in the rough... works pretty well and distance doesn't suffer much.
