What about flex Gord? Would the L or A flex be enough? I understand that a proper golf swing can generate a lot of load, but I don't know if height is the ultimate predictor of top end speed (otherwise a 7' golfer would need like XXXXX stiff shafts).

Assuming that Zac has a decent swing (or will have one soon), what should he be looking for in shafts (assuming a regular swing speed for someone 5'6")?

I had Zac mixed up with one of the teenagers asking for club length advice. Sory Zac!! With that in mind, Zac - how far do you hit your 5 iron and 8 iron? If you are hitting your 8 iron under 130 yards, womens to a senior flex will be fine. Between 130 and 160 yards, regular flex and over 160 stiff. 5 iron would be <160 yards for Women's/Senior, 160 - 190 for regular and over 190 would be stiff.

Thank you for the awesome info, as said I am very much a beginner and don't know what clubs to use where and when, I just got told woods are for driving and irons are for fairways, and putter. so I don't know how far or how to hit the ball correct.
I am sorry for the inconvenience, I went and ask for lessons and they said that they will provide clubs for the lesson so that helps me out. so until I have some lessons first and then get the starters clubs etc I can't tell you what distance I can hit the ball. sorry if I've cause any confusion.

No need to appologize Zac, we are here to help. You are on the right track if you are taking lessons before you start out on your own. It's too bad everyone didn't start that way. Once you get through a few lessons you will have a bit more of an idea of your capabilities. Keep the info handy and when you think you are ready to test the waters of buying clubs, you will have a better idea. Best of luck with your lesson and have fun!!!

Hi Guys!!! hope you all have had an awesome week-end!!!
I went for my first lesson on friday night, my teaching pro is Sam Le Tourneau and I really enjoyed his tutoring.
He let me use his 5 iron Callaway!!! and did the video of my "start" and "end" of session and seeing the changes.
I told him that I've been on the net looking for help and you guys gave me some basic info.
It's weird seeing yourself on video!!! and there was amazing changes... well for me (being a beginner).
He showed me the grip and stances and let me hit the balls and so far the grip feels weird but when I hit the ball, it sounds different than the ones that I ever hit before!!!
About a week prior to seeing Sam, I went to the driving ranges and using my friends clubs I hit 50 balls, they went everywhere... mostly very left or very right and some I didn't see where they went but about 10-12 reasonably straight.
Today I went to the driving ranges and using my the same clubs (5 Iron) out of 50 balls most of them were straight (30-35 balls), I just couldn't believe it and they ranged 130 Meters and further and I can see 95% of what I hit too.
As said thank you for directing me to a good grounding start (and easily addicted) to golf. I am still trying to acustom to the new grip (I think I grip too hard cos' I think am getting a blister on my left index finger!!!) but very happy and all this is due to GTO and your guidancies, I can't thank you enough, you guys are great!!!
