  • It's the Ping!

    Hi all!

I'm new to the board, and new to golf (now working on 3 1/2 months). Yesterday was a breakthrough day for me---I don't move my head until after I hear the ping! No matter how eager I am to see where the ball is going, I am forcing myself to wait until after the ping.

In the limited amount of time I've been "playing", my scores have been as follows:

125, 118, 116, 114. I also had 2 rounds where I could not finish....once due to a hand injury, and the other -- sheer frustration. I am very hard on myself.

I finally got a driver, a Taylormade R360 XD-TI, 11.5* loft--actually hit one ball that went over 200 yards...not very long for some of you I am sure, but I was doing the happy dance! Most went about 185 or so, but they were straight. I have not hit it on the course yet.

Can anyone recommend a good teaching pro in the Houston area? Preferably in the Spring area, if possible.

    Thanks!

    Marcia,

I take lessons at GolfTec in Dallas. There is a location in Houston. Just west of the Galleria. Also there is Matt Swanson at Wildcat Golf Club south of town. I hope this helps.

PS - You do want to move your head. You want to move it away from your target on your backswing. Then try to keep it there until you hit the ball.

I would love to take a lesson or few from Jackie Burke at Champions Golf Club. Of course, he is a legend and a former Masters winner. He would no doubt cure many of my problems with old school methods. However, I am not certain if he offers lessons and I am sure he would not be cheap.
