  • New girlie - in need of copious amounts of advice!

    HI All

I'm a newbie to the board and fairly new to golf - I only started playing last year.

However I am in need of bucketloads of help! My OH and I are going on holiday in September - I have booked a round of golf here:

OH has a handicap and I do not. I need to have a handicap of 36 or less to play.

Having been to the driving range a host of times now, and then playing a full 18 on sunday I think i need some serious help. I went round a par 73 in a depressing 150 ish shots. Horrendous.

My chip shots and bunker shots are generally fine and I seem to put too much power in to my putting shots.

But I'm only playing with a 7 iron, and cannot for the life of me get a full swing without my ball going awry - trees, bushes, water it lands anywhere but the fairway. I can do half swings and get around 50-75 yards, but at the mo I'm not going to stand up to the Klassis course.

HELP HELP HELP - with 11 weeks to go - any suggestions, tips, or instructors in the Chingford / Waltham Abbey or Hertfordshire area would be fantastic.

Off to the driving range again on Friday so any new ideas very greatfully received. Many thanks in advance to anyone who is able to help

Get some professional tuition QUICK before anybody gives you any bad habits!!

Have a look for a course of 6 lessons that will work out a bit cheaper, but in the meantime, you`re probably not going to start hitting long and straight between now and September (I`ve been playing for 20 years and I can`t) so concentrate on the short game, chipping and putting, cos this is where you`ll save the most shots . . .

I'll back Mariner with the caveat that you must practice a ton between lessons if you want to reap the most benefit. If you can't practice daily, you might want to schedule lessons 3 weeks apart - that would get you 3 lessons before your trip (do NOT take a lesson within 1 week of your golf date - it will screw up your round for sure).
