  • Hello from Bristol

    Hi I'm Dan,
I've been playing for about a year and after joining my local club are now looking for a handicap. My only major problem seems to be my consistency-i struggle to hit repeated lenghts and directions with any club especially my driver. I heard this was a good forum so I'm just saying hi and look forward to learning and hopefully helping everyone here
    Dan

    Hi Dan
I was a bit curious about what you use for sticks? Including shaft description. I am wondering whether for a new golfer, you may possibly have shafts a bit too stiff for you?

I'm bored and looking around the forum so I thought I may as well post for him. He uses St. Andrews clubs, I know because I am his mate lol.

My driver and 3 wood both have regular graphite shafts. Driver is 420cc. I've also got a 7 wood which has a slightly stiffer shaft but I can hit that fine!
        Got any ideas?

Well, it seems that if you can hit your 7 wood well (which is a little stiffer) you may want to consider stiffer shadfts in the rest of your clubs. The next thing I would consider is whether the shaft length is correct for your body/build. If too short, the ball tends to go to the right, if too long, the ball will tend to go left. Shaft length, proper flex and a low torque rating are all important.
As far the head goes, your 420cc will obviously be titanium which is good, but what are the rebound qualities? A head with a high COR will help tremendously with distance, 25 yards on average.

Thanks for the ideas, I'm getting a new driver for xmas (probably ping g2) so i'll have to consider getting a stiffer shafted club. Do you think getting it custom fit would be a good idea as I am a tall golfer-possibly to tall for my current clubs?

Without a doubt Dan a fitted driver will make a world of difference. It would allow you to stand more naturally rather than hunch over the club. It will help the clubhead lie flatter to the ground which will help tremendously with accuracy (straighter shots). Not only that, but a longer shaft means more clubhead speed which equates to longer shots.

Alright thanks for all the advice. Just as a random question what club do you play at?
By the way is the ace of clubs.com your website?

Don't get to play much as I would like, but will go anywhere I can in Southern California.
Yes, my site. I build them more than I play with them, and it's a good thing too. If people saw me play, it might be bad for business (ha ha)

Dan Ball placement might be it. Put ball in same place and let the club do the rest. Teachers will tell you that and you will be able to move the ball later in your game. Leasons are the way out of your problem.
