  • Blind Golfer - Help?

Hi, I'm a blind golfer (Ushers Syndrome) who's looking to get better at golf. I've got a pretty good swing, but still play poorly. I can see objects directly in front of me, but nothing outiside of 10 degrees of field. Is there anybody who can help me with how to get more out of my driving range sessions? I have no idea where the ball goes after I hit it and I'm not able to get ball feedback. Any advice would be greatly appreciated.

Dru I applaud you for your efforts. You may actually be in a better position than the rest of us. For you to improve you only need to work on the process of the swing. You don't have to worry about the results as long as you make sure you go through the process. Remember each shot is a battle that has to be won if you are going to win the war. Work on a fluid takeaway and then work on your transition. I believe that the transition is the most important part of the swing and a lot of people overlook its importance. You should actually start to move your lower towards the target before you even finish your backswing. Remember bump your hips then turn. I have only been playing golf for 4 years and have gotten my handicap to a 4.5 and have won my club championship but if I had learned to master the trasition first I would be a lot farther along. But it is all about the journey and trial and error. Good Luck.

You have to get someone as a spotter with you on the range...They will tell you what heppened to the ball. Then ater a while, you will feel what you did to cause that, hopefully correct it, and that new feeling will be what you try for. There has to be some kind of ball tracking device out there that you can use on the course...probably expensive though. Otherwise, friends are your bet allies.

        Re: Blind Golfer - Help?

        Greg and Chad,

Thanks for the quick replies. One thing I should mention is I do have the Golf Launchpad set up in my basement. I use the LPDR about 3 times a week now. I'm not truly confident in how accurate it is, but it's the best thing I can do that doesn't cost much. My swing is usually around 117MPH, and possibly faster; I don't think the GLP registers speeds any faster. My latest thing I've been told from my brother in law is to watch my hip turn. He says I turn them too quickly and am almost on the verge of a reverse pivot. The outcome of this is a lot of shots that start left, then trail right, as well as a low trajectory (getting my weight in front of the ball I guess closes the real angle?). I've focused on putting more weight on my back foot at address as well as letting my hands start the downswing and that seems to be working on the GLP. Would you think I'm heading down the right path? I can upload a video clip if anyone is willing to look at it. Thanks again for your help.
