    Howdy Sean,

Best quit while your ahead and never think about this stupid game. But, it sure is fun and you may find yourself thinking about nothing but golf. You've found a great site with some very helpful members. Get with an instructor if possible and read Ben Hogan's 5 Lessons (the first chapter on the grip is worth it if nothing else). I played my first round with some friends that play often and picked up on ettiquite and rules from them so I didn't feel completely lost out there.

As far as your set of clubs go, the local course can help you find/probably have a used whole set to start out with. I'm probably going against most others, but do not overlook getting them on ebay. I knew what I wanted and found my current set of Cleveland irons for 120 bucks. My friend plays with a set of Callaway X18 clones made by Turbo Power and they hit very well and quite forgiving for this high handicapper. There are quite a few sellers of clones on there so he emailed a few of them and ended up calling one of them to discuss what the guy recommended as far as custom fitting...he couldn't be happier with the $150 or so he spent on them. You would still have to come up with a bag, putter and woods though, so again, check the local course and try to find a used set that way.

      Hi! Thank you Durtman!

We just got back from our local golf store just to look around and it was a little overwhelming! We will checkout some local golf courses and see what they have. We are really excited to start! The store we went to had a putting area and it was really cool to get a feel on the real thing.

We are Veteran Playstation Tiger Wood 2000-2005 gamers So, that kinda helped us on the basics. Really cool. Also my friend that plays golf lives in Anaheim and they just open the Tiger Woods learning Center! We are hoping to go check that out asap!

      Gotta run.

      Thank you again..

Tiger Woods 05 on xbox is what got my interest sparked. I like changes made in 06 version. It's funny, my avg score for 18 on there is my avg score for 9 in reality.

          Re: HI Everyone!

Hi Shredder, welcome, this is my third post. You are so lucky in the States, with all the used gear available. I live in England, but bought a few clubs in Carlsbad last year. I play Orlimar irons and Fairway woods, and everyone who uses them thinks they should be banned.
The only way, is to try as many as possible, get some lessons and learn the basics.
          Good luck.

            Re: HI Everyone!

I've seen good name brand beginner sets at Sports Authority that include Woods, 5-p irons, putter, hypbrids and bag. for reasonable prices. There are other popular retailers - like Golfsmith of tgw online. The main question is what kind of shafts to get. I would rec: regular flex to start for men and ladies flex for women. What do others have to say about steel vs graphite irons for beginners.

              Re: HI Everyone!

Graphite v steel, I am very biased as my whole set has graphite, and I play mid seventies most of the time. I am surprised that graphite has not taken over completely in golf (as in tennis, badminton and lots of cycling components, especially wheels), as the benefits are great - low weight, extreme strength, shock absorsion (very important if you hit down into the ball and don't want injuries).
All the pros use them on drivers now, so the argument that steel is more accurate can't hold up (I would rather be 5% out on a 150 yd shot than a 300 yd one).
Interesting to hear peoples views, as I suspect we are all influenced by our peers and the big boys on tour.

                hey guys,
Our clubs will be here tomarrow! We went ahead and got the The RAM>>>>RH RAM G-FORCE 3WDS/1HYB/5-SW/PTR/BAG GRAPH/STL L. I purchased 2 sets which came out to 292.00 with shipping. We will buy the 7 iron once we get established.

We probably couldve got them cheaper but we just went ahead and got them. I will let you know how it goes on thursday. Thats when we are going to the local driving range

                Talk to you later.
