  • Yet another nooB!

    Hello everyone!
I've been playing now for about 12 years and am absolutely obsessed with this game. Recently, I've been battling the sh***s and have been extremely frustrated. I think playing baseball for my entire youth is playing a part in this. I have gotten lessons, bought books, DVD's, researched articles, etc. They go away for a little while, but then rear their ugly head seemingly 10-fold! I guess I joined this forum to gain a little insight as to what other members of my golfing bretheren do to combat this dreaded disease. Any and all tips, drills, suggestions are welcome. Summer is coming, which means golf here in Phoenix is cheap and readily available. Please help!!!

    Hello cwojo72,

I also sometimes have problems with the 'laterals', and found a couple of things help. Whether or not they help you, I'm not sure, but this is what I try:

    1) Position ball a little bit further from the body,
    2) Get the feeling of keeping the right elbow close to the body on the downswing
    3) Cock the wrists fuller at the top of the backswing
    4) Make a positive follow-through

I work on each of these ONE AT A TIME - its too much to think about if you try to do them all. And if that fails, I will start to hit easy chip shots on the range, focusing on an inside-to-square attack, and solid contact.

As I say, these things work for me, so don't expect miracle results. And keep thinking positive - I've heard many pros say that a 'sh**k' is the product of a nearly-good swing - its not as bad a fault as the result seems to show.
