Cooper - We visited South Africa a few years ago. Played many courses in Joburg area, KZ-Natal and Cape (30+ rounds!). We were a bit surprised how few courses there were for a country of that size, but the courses were good and not very busy (except for Cape Town). With year round playing conditions, it seem there is not the drive and get out and play 4 times a week like we do in our summer! If we go back, we need to find out how to get a local card so we can pay the local green fees!

Derek - Since Cooper has not responded, you might look at:

            http://www.sa-venues.com/western_cape_golf_courses.htm

Steenberg, Westlake, Rondebosch & the Metropolitan 9-hole (quite good) are close to the centre of town. A bit further afield are Stellenbosch, Clovelly - the map in the link shows the locations. We played at Clovelly and Stellenbosch & one called Devon Vale near Stellenbosch. But, we visited several otehrs including Westlake, Metropolitan & Steenberg and they looked great. Prices in Cape Town for visitors are quite high (for SA). I think Royal Cape was R500 and others about R400. It's a beautiful part of the world to play golf - If the wind is not blowing!
