    I just got started playing
golf and already picked up a mean slice.
    What to do?

    Re: Just caught the bug

You didn't pick it up - you were born with it.

    Most golfers are.

Time for some lessons - a good coach will have that slice gone in a lesson or two.

Three or four lessons later, I'm sure you'll be asking for advice on how not to hook the ball.

If you'd like some general guidelines, here they are.

Obviously lessons are paramount. Learn how to swing a golf club properly, and slicing may become a thing of the past.

In the meantime: Stop trying to kill the ball. Since your slice is costing you distance (not to mention accuracy), swing slower and easier, with your trailing elbow folding up (not flying up). Two things should happen. One, you should notice that your ball isn't bending nearly as hard. Two, you'll find that you're still hitting the same distance into the greens, but that there will be fewer obstructions, and a nicer lie.

I'm also assuming that this is mostly an 'off the tee' problem.

      Solid Advice!!
Thanks, I hit 200 drives yesterday. I noticed that when I took the juice off of the swing (practicaly slowmotioin, especially the takeaway) the ball straightened out. I am not hitting them as far.....but straight!!! I'll take straight!! You were also right about it being mostly off the tee.
Now, how does one get distance?
