  • My First Draw

I'm a left handed golfer who for years has been dogged by the dreaded slice, but today i managed to hit my first draw. believe me, for me that is no mean feet. I can't tell you all how excellent it feels to be alble to change my ball flight. How did i accomplish this ?. First of all took my normal set up with my clubface pointing to target. Then i closed my stance but kept the clubface pointing to the target. then i took my club back along the target line, not body line, . Then downswing along my body line causing a loop effect. then follow through and release along my body line which created the most exciting ball flight that i have ever accomplished.......Now all i have to do is figure out how to incorporate this into my normal set up.......Keep swinging friends..T.P.Grealey.

IF YOU TRY THIS DRILL AND IT WORKS FOR YOU I'D LOVE TO HEAR FROM YOU.

tpg1965, what do you mean "closed your stance?". Do you mean feet placed parallel to the target line??

And what do you mean by "body line" and how does one swing along the body line as opposed to the target line. I'm just trying to learn the game and don't understand all the jargon/lingo.. thanx

A normal stance has your feet parrallel to your target line, to close it means to move yuor front foot nearer to the ball, open stance means to move it away from the ball.

I believe that, his description is how most people say to hit a draw with the exception on looping his swing, but if it works and he can repeat it why change. Furyk sort of has the loop like swing and has done nicely with it.

Thanx Bob, that answers the stance question. Still not sure about swinging along the body line.

I think that when talking about "swinging along the body line" your talking about your take away and down swing essenially mirroring an imaginary line between your feet. Tpg had a take away which would be described as outside then he reroutes the club to the inside.

Golf always seems backwards in that if you want to draw the ball (for a righthander) you aim your body to hit the ball to the right, aim your club straight ahead, swing along your body line and the ball goes to the left.
