  • Hello and some swing advice

Hi, I'm new to the forum and my current handicap is a 5.2 at my home course. I've been very inconsistent with ball striking over the 20+ years that I've been playing and this is due to some old ingrained swing flaws. The first problem was posture, I tend to get too far away from the ball and that causes me to become disconnected. The second problem is the club becoming loose at the top of the swing and dropping. To recover, I developed a dip and a hip slide which creates great swing speed but also serious inconsistency. I've been working on fixing my swing flaws over the last year and a half and am making some good progress. Does anyone have any suggestions/drills for posture and keeping the club in control at the top? Staying in balance is another big key I'm striving for. I've done a lot of work on flexibility and balance training, but I'm not quite where I want to be yet. Any suggestions are welcome!!

Elwood, if your playing of 5.2, you shold not have much trouble in fixing these issues. I would suggest a visit to your pro. When you solve these problems, e-mail me with the solution.!!

Agree with above. At a handicapp of 5 you can't be that inconsistent. However, you might want to look at Hardy's book "The Plane truth". I personally feel there is something to this - the one plane vs the two plane swing. In case you haven't read this, Hardy points out that there are basic fundamentals for each type of swing that should not be mixed up. The only reason I mention this, is that if you are looking to change some fundamentals, you might want to decide which swing fits you best. For example, slightly reaching for the ball may be ok with a one plane swing but not with a two plane swing. Anyway, not sure if this will help, but thought I would mention it.

Appreciate the reply. As for handicap, I wish I could play to it right now! I have been driving really poorly lately which has ruined my recent rounds. Saw the pro today, I thought my lower body was too active and video today confirmed it. I have to work on turning into a flexed right knee and swinging back along my toe line. I was straightening my knee and swinging out away from my body a bit. Any drills on keeping your lower body quiet and right leg flexed would be appreciated.

As for swing planes, I am definitely more of a single plane swinger.

To quiet your lower body you can make the following adjustment in your stance:
          1) Increase spine angle at address
          2) slightly flex the knees
          3) Buttocks out
          4) Widen stance slightly
          5) While in this position, take a club over the back of your shoulders and hold onto it with your hands, palms facing the target line. then turn 90 degrees back and through.

            Hi every body

            Hello everybody,
I'm in a real fix. Played the game in Freetown for the last two years - an 18 hole course with browns. Now having shifted back to Calcutta, I'm finding putting quite difficult on the greens.
            Any help on that.
            Cheers
            Vivek
