  • New and Question

Hello, glad I found this Forum and discovered that I'm not the only one struggling on and off with the great game of golf. A question, the last two times out I have been pulling my drives left much like hitting down the 3rd base line in baseball. I feel like I'm chopping at the ball with my arms and not swinging.
    Anyone offer help and tips?
    regards

    Re: New and Question

welcome.... your swing is too outside to in. thry to visualize your swing path going strait out to the target line maybee a little in to out. that is what i do to fix my pull., how far are you hitting it? it sounds to me like you are casting, to help with that go to this link, it gives me a lot of power and accuracy.

try readin thread on the "hand shake drill"

and try to relax more.... if your hands and arms are relaxed they just fall in place on the downswing, you dont have to help them out.

      a quick cure
Put a shoe box 1-2 inches outside the target line in front of the ball. Swing - if you hit the shoe box you are outside in. If you miss it you are coming into the ball from the sinside. Aim for the nearest quarter of the ball.

Skywalker, thanks. When pulling badly, I'm only hitting the ball maybe
60 -70 yds and even shorter at times. Very frustrating. Could you please explain what casting is and how to correct? It feels like I'm jerking and throwing the club at the ball. Make sense?

            Re: New and Question

Beefer, you've identified your problem. You're hitting with your hands and arms, not swinging.

This is causing your arms to come away from your body (get outside the target line), so the only way to 'save the shot' is to PULL them back in. Hence the PULL. Scientific, yes?

The problem is all the possible causes - but I'm sure you know this.

Another thing that could be causing your pull is ball position. If it's too far forward, your swing will be coming back inside (following an outside in path). Even a good swing with a ball too far forward will have the ball moving to the hook side.

If you need to go out again, try aiming more right. This serves two purposes.

1: If you do start to get the arms overacting, then your pull will put you in play.

2: Since you'll have compensated for the pull, you'll relax and put a great swing on the ball. This is usually what happens to me. (Like last night. Expected the big slice with the new driver. Aimed way left. Hit it straight. D'oh!)

sorry, i was away for the weekend.... as far as casting, if you can learn to cup then cock, the right hand drill, and inmapct drill from thoose sites above (stay cupped at imapct) then you won't cast. also, don't forget to stay loose! (in the arms and hands)
