I have been reading your posts for a couple of weeks now and am impressed with the willingness to help. I have been a swatter for years and am trying to do the right hand drill. I just can't seem to stop the swat/scoop motion with my wrists. I'm not asking for any extra help just letting you know that some of us are really conditioned in the wrong technique. I will let you know how the progress goes.

Re: Hello from the U.S.A. (again)
one thing that might help you is the impact drill. and knowing that it is ok to have your right arm bent at impact. don't conciously bend it, but just keep your right hand cupped durring impact which usually results in a bent riht arm.
personally i worked on the impact drill and mastered that first. i still casted and had bad cocking form, but if you hit with the right hand cupped at impact, then you will hit so much farther and more acurate than most amateurs. casting really isn't that big of a power leak. the cupping feels grat at impact too, you almost can't even feel the ball contact the club (even if you thin it) if you are cupped because you are now hitting it with you body as you shold not your hands.
untill i figured out how to not cast (but i still knew how to keep cuped at impact) my 3/4 swing went just s far as my full swing) all the cokcing did for me was give my full swing more distance
my pre cup 9i went 115-120 then my post cup not cock 9i was about 135-140 then my post cup and cock i hit my 9i about 145-150
so just learning the cup will give your great accuacy and power, the cock is still big, but i think a cup without cock is a lot better than a cock without cup.
so this is just what i did, but i wouuld work on the cup, then try to combine that with the cock after you have mastered the cup.
to help my cock ( prevent my casting) i had the feeling as if i was driving my left shoulder (dowswing) down and feeling as if the club was going to go into the ground about 1' behind the ball (and if i casted it probly would) but my mind knows that that would really hurt and keeps my cock untill last minut where my shoulder has rotated and then released the club into the ball.

Thanks, I'll try to learn to cup for awhile. If I understand this right, I will be swinging the club with my body and not my arms. I tried that yesterday and had difficulty with centrifugal force causing the club head to pass my hands and uncup as I approached the ball. I will try it tonight.

as far as the cent force moving club past hands.... that shouldn't happen, you are doing something wrong. if i think about it and don't release i can get my left arm up to shoulder height adn still have cup in right. don't forget a loose grip and swing with your left arm, your right is just a guide. if you need help keeping the cup maybe you could invest in greg normans the secret or david leadbetters the answer. remember don't thing about your right arm or keeping it bend or striat, focus on keeping right hand cupped, and let the right arm do what it needs to to keep that cup. you will need to roate your body pretty far then untill your club reaches impact as you should, giving you more powerLast edited by lgskywalker37; 05-30-2006, 07:42 PM.

Re: Hello from the U.S.A. (again)
Thanks. I went to the range last night and had a lot of success. I was hitting the ball straight and feel that more distance will come as I get used to the move. I think I am using my right hand and arm too much as I have read a lot about firing the right side. Tonight I will try to pull with my left arm and guide with my right which is the opposite of what I do.

Luke,
You are doing a great job explaining the RHD, thanks! You now have the force...

Re: Hello from the U.S.A. (again)
Well I went to the range last night and It was a mixed session. I had a lot of success after taking my right arm out of it. I had my longest hits when it felt like I was heaving a heavy bag rather than swinging (casting) the club. By moving my body instead of just my arms I can hold the right hand cup trhough the ball. To get into impact position feels like I am getting farther in front of the ball than ever before but my head is still behind the ball when I hit it so I guess it is okay.
Thanks.

Re: Hello from the U.S.A. (again)
I felt it! For the first time in my life I actually felt the effect of the cupped right hand. I was aiming at individual clumps of grass 165 yds away and shelling them with my 8-iron. Then I got too comfortable (or better yet stupid, you know how you get a swing adjustment worked out and then decide to add a little more umph? Well that happened.) and lost it. Bit I've felt it now and will search until I find it again.
Thanks.
