  • Hello and How do you change a Steel Shaft???

    Hello all,

I have just started back playing after a 4 year lay off after being golfed out from playing golf from an earlty age...

Looking forward to getting back into playing again......But have gorilla hands at the mo with the short Game :0(

I also would like to ask anyone if they can explain how to change a golf shaft, I have a 3 wood and P/W that I need to change the shaft in, I want to do it on my own to get a sense of achievement :0).......

If anyone can help it would be great....

    Cheers

    Jonny

A few things to do if your changing shafts at home. 1st you need new shafts but make sure you find out if your wedge is taper tip or uniform eg.(R300U). Your 3wd should be uniform tip. Get cutting instructions off www.truetemper.com or whatever shaft you buy. ok . boil water pour it on the black plastic thing near the head and it should slip back towards the grip a little, enough room so you can use a heat-gun or even an oxygen torch(careful) pull it off when you smell the glue burn. Use a rag or good work gloves don't burn yourself the head of the club gets super hot. Pull off the furrel, put it on the new shaft after you have cut it and rough up the tip a bit so it glues better. Clean the hosel out with a drillbit, mix some flexable epxoy (5minute epxoy will do but some would disagree) and glue it in. Putting on the grip; wrap some masking tape (painters tape) on the shaft. use anything to slip it on;a liquid adhesive, petrol, methylated spirits, dilute acetone, or use double sided tape. Thats the backyard guide. Be careful not to burn the paint on the 3wood and really I would give it to your pro to fix.

      Guide to replacing shafts.

Hit bad shot with given club.
Use a string of 4 letter words.
Break in half over knee or golf back.

Find friend that does club building as a hobby.
Order shafts recommended by him and other items he suggests for the project.

Buy 12 pack of Beer and head to his house when shipment arrives.
