  • Getting Hooked

I have recently started to draw the ball which I am happy about as I have been working on my swing to achieve a draw, unfortunately when I play in a right to left wind my ball hooks out of bounds. any ideas how I can overcome this?

    Thanks

The two things I would try is to first setup with a slight open stance. This will promote more of a fade swing path. I would start by moving your front foot away from the ball an inch.

If that doesn't work. Try weakening your grip very slightly. This will also promote a straighter ball flight to fade path.

      my respect to danny...
Never , ever alter your grip or your set up. If the wind is blowing from right to left , the simply tee up on the far left of the tee box and aim for the right side of the fairway . the cross wind will take you nicely to the centre of the fairway. if you alter your grip or set up , you r going to have to make compensations in your swing which couls cuase further problems in the long run.

I guess I would be on the side of altering your setup (grip should not be necessary) and trying to hit the ball lower and straighter into such a wind (maybe not going quite to a fade unless it is really blowing)and let the wind give you the draw. I think you are always going to struggle to find a fairway by hitting a draw which becomes a hook due to the wind on the type of holes you desribed.

Then there is the Phil route, get another driver which will fade the ball with the same setup and swing.
