  • New and seek advice

Hi all, i am a newbie here from asia and really struggling in getting a long drive.

i am standing at 172cm, 80kg and playing leisure golf for abt 2 years , and yet i am still hitting my tee not farther than 240 yards ( straight to fairway ). Wondering if anything tips can help me to improve my swing and distance.

    Thanks

This is a difficult one to answer without seeing you swing ... but as a general rule, for anyone looking for more distance, I'd advise:

    a. make sure you make a full, balanced turn through impact with a firm left arm at impact so that the left arm and club form a straight line
    b. make sure, as best you can, you use equipment that suits you
    c. hold the "hit" until the very last moment and then "pop" the release
    d. make sure your left side clears out the way earlier enough to create space for the right side to follow the club through impact

BUT: don't be too obsessed about distance. 240 yards is fine to be able to score in the 70's .... it's long enough and it's straight ... you might gain 20 or 30 yards but with that gain might come some inconsistency.

      Thank you for your advice

I was taught by a PRO before and did remember he ever said that the left hand grip are to be tight only on the thumb and 2nd finger , is that true ?

      Thanks

Um, no I don't particularly agree with the thumb & 2nd finger of the left hand (if you are right handed) being tighter on the grip ...

If you are right handed, I have always liked the idea of holding the club tighter with the ring finger and baby finger ...
