* Being a full shot away ensures you will get max acceleration into the ball. Otherwise, 1/2 and 1/4 shots reduce the spin rate naturally.

* Clean face (especially the grooves)

* Soft cover ball (no XL, or 1.99 specials, you have to spend to get the $pin)

The swing techniques:
* Make a steep attack, but careful not to bottom out behind the ball. You have to have the club make the divot in front. So make the hands slightly forward.

* Pure contact is probably the most important. Any glancing blow will cause the face to slip and you get no grip for the spin. So this is all about hitting the ball dead center on the face. Nothing to tell you other then just being dedicated to hit 1000's of practice shots until it gets second nature.

* Last is probably soft hands. This lets the wrists hinge easily and in a full range. Tight grips cause short swings that accelerate in the wrong place, first. You want late acceleration, and that "lag" feel where you simply are relaxed and it just happens.
