  • Provisional Ball and Hazards.

    Hello all,

A ball is struck towards a hazard and hits a tree. Is a player allowed to state that his ball maybe lost and put a provisional ball into play.

I think any time you believe a ball maybe lost you can play a provisional. The provisional though is only for a lost ball. So if he finds it in the Hazard he can not elect to play the provisional.

As I understand it, a provisional ball may only be played when the original ball may be lost outside of a water hazard or may be out of bounds...

Rule 27.2 deals with the provisional ball rulings......

Meaning that if it is almost certain that the ball is a water hazard, then the player should proceed under rule 26.1

The OP doesn't stipulate what type of hazard he means.

      Cheers
