First round for a while and probably the last for the year.

The round was much as I expected, a bit like the curates egg - good in parts.

I'd only played this course 3 times before and had never broken 100 on it, so was pleased with 92 gross, 34 points, 12 holes bogey or better, nice short game with 8 up and downs for a single putt.

BUT not so pleased with the 8 (quadruple) and two 7s (one a triple) which blew away my chance of breaking 90 on an "away course" - which now I can achieve eighties at home was my target for the year - or the three 3-putts which gave me 31 ppr rather than slipping under 30.

The driver doesn't come into play on this course until the third (the first is a dog leg and the second a Par 3) where I ballooned it high wide and not so handsome 20 yards to the right into the trees - that was the 8

My driving is variable at best but when its bad it's awful so I reverted to Plan B - taking the 20 degree rescue club off the tee (hadn't brought a 3 wood with me).

Playing the game I brought to the course rather than the one I wished I'd brought, at least meant I was hitting the fairway or light stuff consistently, if short.

Also pleased to say that on the one occasion when I was badly off line with the rescue I used my head not my heart. Blocked one out right into a water hazard (but above the water line) with no view of the green through the trees. A perfect and heroic 9 iron over the top might see me on in regulation - for once I played out into the fairway, plonked a sand iron the 90 yards to the pin, missed the Par putt by not much and walked off with a bogey - now I wonder what would have happened if I'd gone for it ......

So the End of Term Report.

"Robin has worked hard this year and is beginning to get the rewards his hard work deserves. He is still prone to occasional lapses of concentration which see shots thrown away needlessly, set against that he is beginning to learn to play within the current limits of his ability. Although he just missed out on his targets for the year, consistent bogey golf at home and breaking 90 away, these were challenging for a recent 100 shooter and he should be pleased with his progress.

If he works on his driving and on his concentration and continues to think on the course before playing his shots then next year should see further improvement".
