368 replies! I figured there must be something worth reading in there. Took me two and a half hours to read the entire thread - English is not my native language - accidently spoiling my perfectly planned "prison break" tv night btw.

My hcp has been pretty steady at around 7.5 for over a year now but I'm not progressing anymore after many years in which I took 2 to 3 strokes of per year. I figure whith my hcp I must have more or less engrained (some or all off) the 3skills in my game somewhere, but I like the idea of a simplistic approach and getting rid of two million swing thoughts during my game (!!). I do understand it is not a book primairily covering the mental aspects of the game. Being a golf reading junky I've got a library full of Rotella and his friends anyway which haven't worked for me (yet).

I ordered the book and just wanted to share my considerations. If this thread is not dead by the time I have read, understood and practised the 3sks principles thoroughly, I will report my findings objectively.

      Greetings from Holland

        Lester,

Greetings, I am sure you will benefit from the book and more so the simple approach, to hitting the ball and wondering what else happens.

To add to the thread, I had a funny feeling on the way home from the dreaded driving range last night, as our winter draws in. I was on my way home and realized I had just hit 100 balls without any swing thoughts, reminds me of the time about 20 years ago when I realized I had gone a whole day without a cigarette and how proud I felt.

There have been times when I have gone to the range hit the ball great then started to work on something and just ruined my ball striking.

        Ian.

Yeah I was not one for the driving range, I used to get fed up or bored and start tinkering. Now I go there and hit 40% of 50 balls almost were i want (still sorting out distance in flight) and enjoy it. Only thing I really need to sort is my grip i am hoking long irons (think i need to bring my right hand over the top a bit more to stop it rotating too much) but hey the point is the range is now fun.
          Cheers Keith

              Hi Keith,

Hope your back better mate................just a note really, I have played consistantly now for weeks and weeks now without any problem or swing thoughts.

I feel much better about my game now than ever before, just as the season ended really so last two comps I struggled, hit it fantastic best ever just to long with a few irons cost me shots.

              Later mate.

              Ian.

In the UK a box of Pinnacle balls cost £18 ($36) lets forget the P&P. I guess you are from the USA where you pay around half.

                  Hi Ian thanks mate
yeah I know what you mean about over hitting it. Hopefully it will all ready for clubs blazing by the time March/April comes.
Even so its nice just to only be worrying about oops thats a bit bold lol.
                  Later mate
cant wait for the next GTO day think we should have 2 or 3 a year.
                  Cheers Keith

Similar from A.J. Lot more in Nail it though.

I pulled out my old Norbington-Hackett's book "The 267 lessons of the modern golf swing" last night and refreshed my memory on that little gem of his relating to Anatomical Rotation. I never fail to wonder how he can reduce the complexity of ball striking to such a simple art form.

                      This extract is a classic:

"The manner in which anatomical rotation from an individual segment contributes to the position and velocity of the endpoint can be informative in the arena of many athletic events whose goals are to attain the maximal velocity of the most distal segment. This study presents a new method of velocity analysis using dual Euler angles and its application in studying rotational contribution from upper extremity segments to club head speed during a golf swing. Dual Euler angle describes 3D movement as a series of ordered screw motions about each orthogonal axis in a streamlined matrix form—the dual transformation matrix— and allows the translation and rotation component to be described in the same moving frame. Applying this method in biomechanics is a novel idea and the authors have previously applied the methodology to clinical studies on its use in displacement analysis. The focus of this is velocity analysis and applications in sports biomechanics. In this study, electrogoniometers (Biometrics, UK) with a frequency of 1000 Hz were attached to a subject during the execution of the swing to obtain the joint angles throughout the motion. The velocity of the club head was then analyzed using the dual velocity which specifies the velocity distribution of a rigid body in screw motion at any point in time as the dual vector. The contributions of each segment to the club-head velocity were also compared. In order to evaluate this method, the calculated position and velocity of the club head were compared to the values obtained from image analysis. The results indicated that there is good agreement between calculated values and the data, suggesting the suitability of using the Dual Euler method in analyzing a kinematic chain motion. "

                        Brilliant.

That sums up exactly what I've been trying to achieve in my recent swing changes but I was struggling to put it in words.

I've checked Amazon but can't find Hacketts book; is it out of print?

He may have sold the publishing rights to J.R.Hartley at some point. Make sure you use his full name in the search engine:
Peregrine Norbington- Hackett. A great loss to the golfing world, his reversing double pirouette niblick stinger was such a pleasure to see.

Indeed. Ofcourse as J R's brother Leslie said, "the past is a foreign country, they played golf differently there".

This picture was the last time we saw P.N-H play in a British Open. The pressure really got to him on the final day after just making the cut, he was a great exhibitionist and could give anyone a run for their money.

Enough of P.N-H, for now anyway.

I was looking at this clip showing Moe Normans wrist movements through impact. He executed the 3 skills so well especially skill 3.
