I met some people that owned and managed a golf discount store about 15 years ago. These guys taught me most everything a person needs to know about golf club repair. I am so comfortable in shaft replacement, regripping and even simple alterations on clubheads now. It does not matter if the shaft is steel or graphite or the club is blind bore or bore through as I have reshafted both. I do not make clubs for other people as I do not want to be responsible for the failure of the club. I have reshafted my driver and 3 wood after locating the spine of the graphite shafts. I now have very reliable woods. I now find my golf rework as fun as playing golf.

I gotta say, I'm in love.

I've got 16 shafts awaiting 16 heads (building 2 combo sets - one in R and one in S)

And I'm learning to use an air compressor to install grips... much faster to take 'em off, anyway.

What type of shafts and heads are you using?

Well, I've got TrueTemper Dynamic Gold S300 and R300, and I'm going to use Tour 40 combo heads for one set, and if I like them, I'll buy CER 701 3C combo heads from GolfWorks.

I guess they're based on the Nike Pro Combo's (so I'm a little disappointed that I'm using clones - this was an impulse bid, more for practice putting clubs together than anything else).

But like I say, if they're any good, (and if I like the stiff shafts), I'll buy the CER heads (quality component) and swap the shafts over. (And put the old Tour 40 heads on eBay with the DG R300's in 'em).

I went with combos because I'm pretty confident in my ballstriking, and I've got tremendous confidence in my short game, so figured the ability to work some approach shots might be nice.

I'll probably post a review in the end of May, once I can get a month on 'em.

I've been looking for a combo set myself, but I'm waiting to see what Titleist comes out with before I make a decision on what I'm getting.

The CPGA show was in Edmonton this weekend and I was trying clubs. Out of all the clubs I tried, I liked the Nike Combo irons (I can't believe I just said that) but the best was the Hogan Apex. Unfortunately Titleist and Mizuno were not there, but all the rest were there: Taylor Made, Callaway, Ping, etc. and none could compare to the Apex irons.
