    Re: One size fits all

I respectfully disagree. When I get components in, the heads are ~ 7 grams heavier as they go up in number. So the shaft length is one variable I have to set swing weight. Granted, there are ways to add more weight to a head (and a grinder can take some weight off, I suppose), but it's almost universally easier to augment shaft length to set swing weight.

I didn't mean to imply that club head weight is the easier variable to manipulate. I meant that the only reason why head weights vary at all is to keep swing weight constant once it's decided, for other reasons, to vary shaft length. But I don't know what those other reasons are.

If shaft weights were constant there would be no need to vary head weight.

[QUOTE=ubizmo] I do think, however, that having clubs of the same length might make it possible for some golfers to arrive at that swing sooner. To my mind, it's "game improvement" option, the same as cavity-back irons and hybrids. Not everybody needs these options, of course. But they might help some golfers to play the best golf they are capable of, which might still not be that good. I don't think everyone is capable of playing good golf, but most are capable of playing better golf.

        Hello Todd,

I like the fact that the clubs are a different length. It makes the game more interesting and more challenging. I agree with you that most people are capable of playing better golf and that not all will play good golf. I want to play good golf and than great golf.

I posted in a prior thread, I think the Hybrid thread that I'm new to golf, (five months) I mentioned that I don't keep score. Today I decided to keep score. I played 18 holes on Tuesday at the course our home in on. Even though I didn't keep score I knew I was playing well. I had a good afternoon at the range yesterday so I went out today to a course I've played before. It's a nine hole course, par 35. I shot a 45 with 4 GIR. I played the same nine again, I was feeling real good about my 45. I shot a 49 the second time around with 2 GIR. On the eighth hole I missed an ace by 15". I don't feel bad that I missed the ace, no one was there to witness it anyway. It was a 126 yard par 3, I used my 7i.

Yesterday at the range I only bought my driver with me. I had some problems hitting well with it on Tuesday. I did great at the range and thought I solved my problem, ha, ha. Today my drives were not real good, but good enough so that I had decent lies for my second shot. I don't use any fairway woods or Hybrids, I have a major problem hitting them. I use a 6i for my second shots on par 4's or 5's. It works for me, my 6i is one of favorite clubs. I got one of my GIR using my 6i from about 200 yards out, I got lucky.

I guess what I'm trying to say is that every person has to use what works for them. One of my sons tees off with his 4i, he can't hit a driver or a wood.

Todd, what works for you probably won't work for me. You seem to have success with your 3h. I can't hit my 3h, I think I'm going to cut it in half and give it to our six year old grandson to use as a driver. LOL

Keep your head down and your hopes up.

        Tom

          Re: One size fits all

How about "three sizes fit all"? One for short irons (7i to putter), one for long irons (2i to 6i) and one for woods and driver?
