    Re: Cut Down Driver

Now you pull the shaft, and stick a 9g titanium weight in there. That should add 5 swingweight points back.

Or you could try these. I had 2 packs - my brother in law took them both. Great for adding weight on the fly or changing swingweight in a hurry.

      hi ben
thanks for that, is it critical where you place the pads?
they are quite handy but not that pleasing to the eye.

        Re: Cut Down Driver

I recently tried the cut down experiment with an old Orlimar Trimetal Plus 9.5* I used to use. Took off 1" at the butt end to make it 44" long. 1"= 6 point SW loss Ive learned, so I placed 3 pieces of lead tape that are 2 SW a piece on head of club to make up for that loss. Result: Im hitting more toward the center (previously close to heel most of the time) and hitting more fairways. Distance is better due to more solid contact. This driver is old school but it has replaced my TM R7 and Hogan CS-3 I own. I am tempted to try shortening one of these clubs. Im thinking of trying it with the Hogan club, its inexpensive. Should I do it?

          Braveheart,

Sounds like it has worked for you, If you are confident in it helping your game then I would do it with the TM R7 and purchase two 14 gram weights for the rear instead of using tape, will look better and work.

          Ian,

I would be interested to know how you go on.

I will do that. Where can I find the two 14 ounce weights to purchase? I have the two 10s and 2s that come standard with the club? You have helped in the past (spine angle issue), I appreciate your thoughts.

              Hi Mate,

Your pro should be able to get them from TM, about £10.00 each. They come as standard with the R7 tour prefered version.

14 gram, put two in the rear pots and 2 grams in the outer pots.

Should look good and hopefully go well.

If you cut only 1 inch off it may not make any difference to the lift (or at least I don't think it will).

              Ian.
