Re: ball postion in relation to left heel.

With my swing, I have always prefered a more closed stance with my left foot at a 90 degree angle to an imaginary object left of the target. Then my right foot is dropped back and is at at 90 degree angle to an imaginary object right of the target. This allows you to take the club back to the inside and load up on the right leg, then after the weight shift, pivot down the line on the left leg. Try the 90 degree rule at the range. It works for me. If you don't shift your weight, you'll push the ball to the right. I use this set up on every club except when I use a punch shot with the shorter clubs. Then my right foot is at a 90 degree angle at the target and my left foot is open to the left. No pivot here. Just driving the right shoulder down and thru. 11.7.

I use alignment sticks on the range for reference all the time. 10 bucks.

A proper, consistent weight shift on the down swing will help to give you a consistent low point in your swing. With a proper, consistent weight shift, where ever the low point in your swing is, will be the right spot for you. Once you have that consistent low point in your swing dialed in, in conjunction with your stance width, you will know where your correct ball position will be. GJS

Another kind of related question. When I line up for a short pitch I am opening up the stance or rather my foot positions. However, I realize that I do not correspondingly open up the shoulders. Shouldn't I keep the two parallel and just open my clubface in my hands to keep it square to the target. I think that is why I am stubbing some pitches or pulling them sometimes.
