I don't have the problem, but saw this the other day. It seems to make sense, when I think about it and visualize the action.
The concept that was explained and shown is that you cannot swing OTT, if you first make the shift to the front leg, before swinging your shoulders and body. The shift is accompanied with the "dropping" of the arms on plane in the early "slot", and only then you would turn on the jets with the turning action of the body and shoulders.
It's the swinging from the ground up idea, and also the idea that the swing does not start at 100 miles an hour. Let the body get into a solid position (the bowed kneed sitdown position ala Snead, before letting the upper body and arms go. Also the arms drop, but the clubhead is still lagging behind at a speed of what? 5 miles an hour, and then building up from there to maximum through and just past impact. You don't try to use your big muscles at the start to try to attain clubhead speed of 100 miles an hour at the top.

I find myself sometimes diving into my downswing to get the shift to my front leg. Which throws my right shoulder forward then the OTT then the slice. How can I get my shift to front leg without the diving.
Thanks Dant

Re: Help - Slice
Hi dant,
There is no reason for your upper body to dive into the shot, as you say when you shift your weight. There is no reason to want to do that. Read the sequence as I stated in my previous post. The head has to stay behind the ball, as you know.
This may not be the best available, as I did a quick search for a swing of any golfer to illustrate that the shoulders and body are essentially held back from turning into the swing until the weight is shifted. This video shows that.
There is a "drop" of the arms on plane to about shoulder height which is caused by the shift, but the shoulders are still closed.
There is a marvellous Snead video, which will show the same thing if you want to do a search on you tube.

Re: Help - Slice
The two things I always check when I start to hit a few slices are as follows, for right handers:-
First would be to slightly roll the right wrist over just before impact to ensure I am getting the club face square at impact instead of wide open.
I other problem could be that your grip is too weak causing the same problem of an open club face at impact. To fix this I would turn my left wrist when gripping the golf club slightly to the right showing an extra knuckle which strengthens the grip.

Re: Help - Slice
make sure your backswing is not a backswing but a "takeaway" one way to prevent the fast backswing is to put another ball behind the ball you are about to strike making sure the ball behind the golf club does not move more that a meter, once you get right you will note that your path is much better, other than that make sure your "release" the ball very early in your "downswing"

An OTT slice is the result of improper sequence and improper body movements. Ted is knocking around the right concept. I would add that the shift to the front foot, the transition is not the start of the downswing as much as the END of the backswing. The club is still going back (or at least not coming down) as you LET the end of the backswing shift the weight onto your front foot. Some people describe it as BACKING into the target at the end of the backswing, rather than diving to the front foot as club starts on the downswing.

i know though it's a confidence thing....
Got the game tomorrow so i'll see how i go.
It kinda sucks, thinking I need to move somewhere warmer where I can golf year a round. LOL ! My short game is never the problem it's always the long drives I have problems with.
