Help! Im really struggling with a lot of swing thoughs, and in particular, my thoughts compared to my instructors thoughts.
Ok, im a 28 handicap, never shot under 100, im at the stage where i can get 1 over on most holes, but have 5-6 awful holes, i.e. trees, water, 3 off the tee, and a few 3 putts which shoot me past 100.
My main problem area is that anything 7 and above, im very confident, get them off nice and straight, my long game is my problem, either 5 irons 150 yards, or long drives which either slice or hook.
Anyhow, after much reading, viewing on youtube etc, I've finally managed to find a consistant swing which gives me 200 yards straight at the range, drivers 240 etc. Basically, I take my backswing, keep left arm straight, on the downswing, I get a nice triangle, and my hips are open, although I do feel like im batting a cricket bat rather than swinging. Any attempt to cross the hands over results in a hook. My arms keep this triangle past impact.
However, my instructor is telling me im still out to in, and has got me working on holding the club to create lag, and told me to aim for an out to in path. However, I just feel its impossible, and im really struggling to get this pure inside path. If I pull down purely as ive seen suggested, i get a "chicken wing" on my left arm, and feel my right arm gets caught into my right side. Im also confused whether to start the downswing with a hip turn, bump to the left etc etc, as typical instructors only work on one part of your game without telling you the rest (great help huh).
Despite my poor scores on the course, im fit, been doing yoga and weights to improve my posture, im able to hold form, and able to try any suggestions that people may have.
Also, im wondering whether to just stick with what i've found seems to be working, or work on what im being taught. It seems to me from all the various readings and teachings that there is more than one way to hit a ball consistantly straight, but which is correct?
yours very frustrated and confused
