I've always hit the ball to the right with every club as well, driver, wedges even with the putter. Couldn't figure out why even though people told me I aimed right.
I've had lessons, filmed my swing, had video lessons, used training aids. Nothing seemed to work !
In the last 2 years I've gone into overdrive with this problem. Every spare hour I went to the practise area. It is all I thought about. Wondered if my poor eyesight had anything to do with it. It was all very frustraiting !
I always knew I had good timing, tempo and course managment. I could always score in the 70's but I had no consistency. After a 270 yard drive I would hit a gap wedge from 50 yards straight right into a bunker !
The flaws were clearly there to be seen; I swayed too much to the right on the backswing, had a three quarter swing with little wrist hinge. I hit everything with an open clubface !
Anyway I think I've sorted it out. I've had many false dawns where I've hit the ball well for a round or 2. But nothing ever lasted !
It's such a simple thing as well, to do with my setup. My fault was my shoulders were always closed. This caused all the problems in my swing. What I've always done in setting up to the ball is grip the club with my left hand, reach out and then add my right hand. This for some reason caused closed shoulders, a weak right hand grip, and tilted head and shoulders. With this setup I would always sway miles right with my body when I swung and the ball would sail miles right.
Now I grip the club keeping the my hands close to my body, I set up with my feet and then inch the club head towards the ball. Everything feels so much better, I can see / feel my shoulders are square. My Dad told me the other day my setup was perfect. Perfectly square !
And that's it !, hitting the ball brilliantly at the moment, scored 70, 72, 74, 72 and 72 in the last 5 rounds !
Works with my putting as well. My setup routine is simliar to Lee Westwood's now. I inch the putter towards the ball, I don't reach out like before !
Anyway I'm amazed how simple my fault was !
All those years !
All those idea's !
I think alot of my Dad's faults stem from his set up as well !
