So I tried this tip and while I hit some really powerful solid shots, mostly pushed the ball and even shanked a couple of times. Any idea why?

I play off 12, I do usually pretty much keep my top thumb on top of the shaft, cup at the top and hit the ball very straight, very high with just a trace of a fade. Just lack in distance overall (drives 220-230). I think my grip in general doesnt allow me to hit with much power, but I am very consistent and was hoping the change would get me some distance without sacrificing accuracy.
