    Re: Lots of swing questions

    Ricky,

From your thread it appears to me like you are taking the club back on the inside and then across the line at the top.

There is a good drill for this but it will take a lot of work because it is opposite to what you are doing.....

Take your normal set-up, if you were looking in a mirror the ball and club should be about 6 O'clock. Take the club back to 8 O'clock, the face should be slightly closed and when you look down the right thumb and forefinger should be on top of the club. Now simply bend your wrists and point the club to the sky without turning. Once in this position turn your shoulders and you should be on a perfect plane, it is difficult to overswing if you hands are correct at 8'Oclock.

Once you have done this drill a few times (every spare minute for a week) then try to put the turning and wrist break together.

The bench drill is to help make you understand that the swing does not go around the body but more of a turn and lift.

P.s drop the Prov1x,this is for very hard hitters of the ball the Prov1 suit us mere mortals better

    Hope this helps.

    Ian.

Another drill in front of the mirror is place the mirror so it is to your right (right handed).

Do your takeaway until the club shaft is parallel to the ground. Now check your position in the mirror. The club should straight along your target line.

Now make sure u lift your arms straight up and cock your wrists vertically not at angle. stop again when your arms are parallel to the ground. your arms should be straight along your target line and the club shaft should be vertically straight.

Now turn your shoulders and cock your wrists until your shoulders have turned 90* and club pointing towards your target at the top of your backswing.

hope this helps with your takeaway and position at the top.

As for point 3. I would recommend getting your takeaway correct as opposed to what sounds like a quick fix with swinging slightly outside which may cause furhter problems.

My drill is VERY similar to Craig's:

From address, start your take away with your arms only. Oncew your club is parallel to the ground, stop. Next, cock your wrists to 90* so the cub is pointing skyward. Last, turn your shoulders 90*. Once these positions are engrained in your memory, try to blend then into one move. REMEMBER to keep your backswing slow. The golf swing should be 3 seconds from takaway to impact. 2 seconds for the backswing and 1 second from top of the backswing to impact.

If you are unsure of the correct position at the top try this:

At address, raise your arms to parallel striaght infront of you. Cock your wrists to 90* so the club is pointing skywards. Now, turn your shoulders 90* - this will put you in the correct position at the top.

          Re: Lots of swing questions

          Hi Ricky,

It's only my opinion but I think the left foot plays a major part in the golf swing.

Keeping this foot flat on the ground:

creates torque in the lower and upper body

Keeps you over the ball and not sliding

          Reduces hip turn

          Reduces overswinging

with all the above you should feel a crisper contact with the ball.

          It works for me......
