  • AJ Truth about golf-really?

Been watching this thing with a buddy of mine who ordered it a while back; its really interesting. I was highly skeptical when I saw the promo on the Golf Channel; but after applying the new teachings to the range, i'm baffled.

So earlier today I went out to the range to test out the driver.

AJ says in the video that i have to picture the ball as a huge nail in a way and that I have to hammer it into the wall; with this mentality i focused mainly on that; so I just swung, no thought to whether it was Inside-out or outside-in.

One thing that I did remember though, which I find is essential in the whole video is the wrist and hand position during the whole swing: make sure the palm of my right hand is always facing me,so as if you were holding your remote the buttons are always facing you. Honestly it felt weird at first, but as soon as I started my downsing and "nailed" that ball in ( with hand-eye coordination being a huge factor of course ) the ball just rocketed off my club and went straight for about 280.

So after doing that consistently for about the whole hour I was there; i've begun to question all these methods of swings...AJ says its not the swing, but its the tool (club ) and the ball and the hand eye coordination of those two. Another thing that I found interesting, was that AJ didn't use any sort of weight transfer and could still bomb these shots.

Maybe he's just that good and maybe I got lucky today;but I thought i'd share and was wondering if any of you guys have tried this method out; I just dont believe it yet that it might be this easy to do,after all the countless articles/videos/golf tourneys I've reviewed over and over. But today it worked for me,we'll see about tomorrow.

oh btw, i'm not a big guy either to hit 280; dunno if that would be a factor. I'm about 5'7 155lbs, in shape cause I played college soccer, brand new at this game-self taught myself while I was in Thailand for two months.

I have seen the AJ series. I think the one thing I took away from it was using a simple swing thought. "Drive the nail" is short and sweet, and gives you a mental picture of what you want to do. It keeps you from thinking about all the negatives in your swing and thought = shot.

No matter what 'method' you use to get there, use what makes the game fun for you. There are always going to be poeple who slam something for whatever reason, some good reasons, others bad. All that matters is keeping the game fun and finding what works for your mind to make the shot happen.

yeah,i'm watching the videos right now ( clone display..YAY ) its hard to pay attention as he is really into the science of the game; as well as philsophy, but its still interesting.

        I'm assuming you're right-handed.

I guess I don't really understand what you mean here, because when you say the palm of your right hand is facing you during the whole swing...I can't really see how that can work. If I hold my hand in front of my face and stare at my palm, then my palm is facing me, but that position doesn't occur in a golf swing. And I DEFINITELY don't see how to hammer a nail with my palm facing me. Is there some other way to explain this?

You have the palm of the right hand facing you ( so the clubface is open ) on the backswing and start of downswing, by the time you "hammer" the nail in you close the clubface. Ill post some pics from the video soon to explain visually.

Thanks, I'll be interested to see the photos. I think I have a little better mental picture of what you mean now, at least how my right hand could face during the end of the backswing and beginning of downswing. Whether that would help or not...I have no idea. But it's interesting and I'll try anything.

              here are the screenshots:

first the nail imagery:drive it into the wall

the backswing with palm facing you ( the buttons ) he's using a cellphone:

Thanks for the pictures. I take it that one consequence of this palm-facing backswing is that the club doesn't get cocked as far back over the golfer. Seems to me it'd have to end up pointing more or less skyward, rather than parallel to the ground and pointing to the target at the end of the backswing.

honestly i thought the same thing, but when you try to keep the "buttons" facing you, you end up cocking your wrist at the end of the backswing, at least I do,basically I start my backswing at the top I cock my wrists towards me,so my hands don't go up they go side to side. I suggest trying it, i was amazed how much straighter my shots went, got rid of my slice pretty well.

Are there any other tips you could share with us?

Sorry but I'm a student and can't afford his dvd collection and his advert on Golf TV Pro Shop has always interested me.

The two tips you explained with us look useful, thanks for sharing.

sure thing, i'm gonna watch it again and go over the important stuff; most of the time he is just talking a whole bunch which can get frustrating, but its all preparation for the visual concepts. after I do that,i'm thinkin of just making a small compilation of highlighting the important parts.

Since the toe of the club points in roughly the same direction as the right thumb, this would mean that at the top of the backswing the toe of the club is pointed to the rear of the golfer, right? Not the way I'd hammer a nail!

                          workin on the comp.

the hammering of the nail is meant to be on the down swing, basically at contact and right before, its a mentality useful to drive thru the ball-that method doesn't apply in the backswing really.

This system probably wouldnt benefit me that much. I think i swing a golf club better than I hammer a nail

                              lol.

okay, uploading the .rar file right now ( 3 vids about 54mb ) will post link as soon as done. I've covered only some of what AJ talks about, there is so much more, only covered about 20 mins of the total 2h30 compiled DVDs.

but it should get the basics down for those of you that are interested in buying the product.
