Re: More on one plane swing

I think dropping of the hands applies more to the 2PS, and is what's more commonly known as dropping into the slot. I recall seeing a pic where on the downswing, the club should be in line with the right forearm (practically covering the right forearm if you look from behind). With the 1PS you should already be in line so you don't need to drop the hands anymore to get "in the slot", right?

Right. Apparently, I cannot have a post less than 10 characters in length, however.

Notice that Bart Bryant does seem to have the habit of dropping his hands even though he already seems to be quite nicely on plane.

Another good forum is on www.inpractis.com where Brady Riggs provides most of the input. Though he pretty much rips the 1PS/2PS theory, he is consistent in his teaching: "One day people will stop looking for the magic bullett and start working on the fundamentals of grip, stance, alignment, plane, pivot, and clubface," which he supplements with good video to make his point.

This is the best description of the 1PS I have seen.

Thats exactly how I would describe the 1PS. Stand further from the ball, bend more from the waist and then swing the club like a baseball bat, feeling the club/arms are being turned by your chest/hips at all times. No need to worry about dropping the arms from there, your whole body inc shoulders all turn back through the ball together .. theres much less 'sequence' of motion so to speak

If you try this first with a PW you'll notice how sweet the contact is

I agree with PNEARN, I would say most Americans have a distinct advantage over most in that they played baseball as kids. Its really quite simple, bend from waist and stick out your butt then swing as you would a baseball bat. Try to rid your mind of all the complicated swing thoughts.

Why is Mark McGwire such a long golfer? Because he applies his baseball swing to his golf swing.

In fact, Big Mac creates so much lag he's currently working on reducing it.

Big Mac turns his body, and lets his arms ride - the same way he did in baseball - and the only difference is that his hands and arms are much less active in golf.
