  • changed grip and found sweet spot?

Hello to all, I am a new member.
My question is: I am a 14 (there about) handicap and recently hurt my left wrist (over-extended caused by building a shed), anyway, my normal grip is the standard overlap (I am right handed). It hurt to swing this way so I was trying different grips. I noticed my putting grip did not hurt it (reverse overlap) with the thumbs side by side and the left index over my right little finger. I swung my 8 iron this way and did not feel the golf ball contact....dead center on club face and about 10 yards longer (145 yds)!
My old swing would always contact between the center and toe of the club face and I could feel the hit. All of my clubs are following suit. Has anyone tried this grip with a full swing? It feels very unorthodoxed to me and has me puzzled?

hey hey if it works for you why not, back when qschool was going on there was someone using a reverse grip, i dont know if he made it or not though

Does anyone remember Steve Jones, 96 US Open?

Well, that's what I was figuring on. If it works, use it. It just feels odd.
I remember about Steve Jones when he had injured his finger and Skip K. had injured his also and used the reverse during that time.
I guess that it is keeping my swing plane in check by not letting my right side take over the swing. But I tell you it sure is odd when you swing and it feels like hitting a cotton ball. I can't wait to get it on the course and see if it holds true when I'm in front of my podnuhs (they will not cut me any slack, so I am not saying anything to them yet).
Thanks for the feedback. I wonder if anyone else out there has tried this and what the results were? I'm just curious!

I just switched to reverse overlap... WOW...it's cottonball city.... I can't understand why this isn't taught as the proper overlap...

About two years ago I almost quit playing due to a severe case of duck and pull hooking. I took lessons, tried everything conventional and nothing helped. Somehow when using an overlap or interlock grip I assumed too strong a grip no mattter what I tried. The hooks were triggered by a bout of back pain for some reason. I was not able to do whatever I was doing to counteract my extra strong grip.

In desperation, I tried the reverse overlap and that did the trick. An all new grip allows me to take a nice neutral grip with the palms facing each other. I now hit a nice controlled fade and am playing the most consistent golf of my life. However, my driving distance has gone down from 250-270 yards to 220-240. As well have lost about a club in distance. None of the several PGA pros I saw would ever been able to prescribe this radical cure to me.
