  • Hands & Arms

Looking at some of the posts on here it seems that not only am I not alone in having a "hands and arms" dominated swing but also that there are solutions to the problem. Reassuring in two ways

Since I posted about my horror round a few weeks ago I've been working on "feeling the shoulder turn" (thanks PNEARN) and have begun to get the sense of "shoulder turn leading to hip turn" (thanks SPANKIT) and I can already see how, with work, this will lead to more consistency.

What I don't have is any real feel is what happens with the back leg - I think that while my front hip turns (even if not enough yet) my back leg is a bit like a concrete post!

So, any thoughts on flex and turn? And / or can you point me in the direction of swing videos that illustrate various pros? (I know these links have been posted before but I didn't save them - sorry!)

    Thanks in advance

    Robin

Great to hear you are making good progress. A good shoulder led body rotation is definietly the way to go

In answer to the leg question I *personally* wouldnt try and worry too much about the back leg other than to make sure on the backswing that as your shoudlers turn you keep the weight on the inside of the leg and maintain a little flex in your right knee. Dont overdo this as this will give you too much tension and you want a nice flowing motion

Same on the way down, just feel that nice rotation back through the ball. How you 'lead' that rotation is up to you and your feel. Some drive the knees, others the hips. I like to feel as if its my chest turning through the ball as I have fast hips. Once you work this out your legs will just respond to the piece thats pulling the engine so to speak

I should made clear that it was the back swing I was concerned about - I end up facing more or less in the right direction so I guess I must be moving on the way down

Thanks, thats exactly what I was looking for - some simple thoughts to work on. Luckily not a million miles away from what I've been doing, except for the sting in the tail.

If I could avoid the tension trap generally my game would improve ten fold.
