  • Push slice now a Pull slice. Progress?

New golfer (2nd year - haven't broken 100 yet). I'm in real good shape with my irons. But I slice my driver nearly every time. With some recent practice rounds, I've managed to turn my push slice into a pull slice. Is this progress?

Here is what I've done so far:

Ball placement: for driver is more forward, in line with front of front foot.
Set my feet: I was rolling my front front.
Stronger grip: It was already at least neutral.
Corrected arms/club angle: I was straight out - reaching.
Chin up: Making room for the front shoulder in backswing.
Hands: One of my last thoughts before my swing is "return left hand back to the address position - back of hand pointing towards target"
Swing: later wrist hinge at top of backswing. I was cocking them too quick.
Rythm: I'm probably a little too fast.
Swing-plane: The big unknown. I have no idea. Should I be flatter, more upright? My irons feel fairly upright and I hit them nicely.

So afterall these adjustments, I no longer push-slice and instead am pull-slicing. What else can I do to fix this slice?

    Other details:
    I'm swinging a Agams GT2. 10 degree. Regular flex/graphite. I'm a male, 6' 1", and average build. When I do hit it straight, I can hit my driver 240-260.
Also, have had 3 lessons. The last lesson was all with irons, and as long as I am consistent there, I'm golden. However, what I learned about swinging my irons hasn't seemed to translate over to my driver.

    To be honest, it depends.

By pull-slice, is the ball starting to the left of your target and then going right?

If this is the case, I would almost say I prefer the push slice since that was more of a inside path.

With the push slice my guess is that your lower body was to active and you were coming through the shot and your arms were behind.

Now you have the oppposite happening where you arms are leading the way and you are coming over the top of the ball, but you still aren't releasing through the shot which is why they are still going right.

You need to find some happy median with upper-lower body but also work on getting the club released. Pay attention to greg's right hand drill as the will help get your club in the square position at impact. Get your hips rotating not sliding. Most amatuers have a tendency to slide more that turn.

I know this is a lot of info, but try to think back to some of the lessons and don't focus on to many things at one time. By all means, not the whole list you listed.

As I mentioned in previous post, driver you turn pivot around right leg where as with irons you pivot around left leg.
Driver is flatter swing with ascending path up through impact to finish whereas irons are descending path down through impact to finish.
Driver you hit up, irons you hit down
      Many scoopers do the opposite.
One way to figure your swing path is to place a head cover immediately outside the ball and try not to hit it while staying more behind the ball with driver and woods while staying less behind with irons.
Sounds like you have outside in swing path; if you start the downswing with the butt end of the club pointing more down the ball to target line and closer to your body, you will start correcting the out to in path.
Go very slow swinging at first. Many try this fix while taking their normal swing speed-which is probably way to fast anyway-you are not going for distance-you are however going for form, balance and tempo.
