Thanx for asking that question Broadus (grasshopper) that was very helpful for me to know.. I believe I was actually starting to do that at one point while practicing this cupping motion last night. That is not cocking. I worked on this cupping at the beginning of my swing last night and it had dramatic results for me as I have state to s4par in his "Normans secret" post.

there is a reason I said this is the second most important thing in the golf swing besides a good set up

          Re: the waggle and cup

S4par, played a lot of golf yesterday and worked on the waggle and cup technique with every swing. Notes: 1) I'm having to think a lot right now in order to remember to do so many things. Remembering the waggle and cup is easy enough but in addition the chatter in my head is something like this "relax, slow back swing, make sure wists are not cocked at set up, keep left arm straight as possible at top of the swing, keep eye on the ball, turn the body and let arms and hands follow when starting to swing, remember to fully rotate shoulders and on and on and on." 2) I did not add strokes to my game trying something new but didn't take any off either (which wasn't expected yet). 3) tend to push the ball when driving out of the tee box (not so much a slice anymore, I assume this is a matter of timing/rythm) and 3) continue to pull the ball in the fairway and on approach shots (especially) 4) Weird huh??

Whadayathink?? Also I am playing in a "cow pasture" no real grass in the fairways only weeds and bare spots. I do move the ball a little to try and find some cushion. $15 can play all day. As soon as the rain stops I'll be back at it..

focus on the set up. My pre shot routine has countless check points at set up but I dont let that overwhelm me because I know it is all before swinging. Focus on the waggle and cup and maybe ONE downswing thought, leave it at that. You could focus on extending down the target line or something like that. You need to have a way to figure out what YOUR biggest issue is and take care of that. can you give more details? WHere is ball in your stance, weak or strong grip, does ball start left of target, goes high or low, hit ball thin/fat/flush, your height, weight age and flexibility level, how far are you hitting wedge 6 iron, 4 iron, driver

              Off front heel,
              weak or strong grip
              Weak/loose,
does ball start left of target
did on driving range but not always now. Today I was mostly burning the ball down and to my left. Rarely hit a decent shot with the driver today, having some tiredness in my back from playing so much and driver is just breaking down real bad. I think I am subconsciouly trying to compensate.
              goes high or low
              all of the above,
              hit ball thin/fat/flush
              again all of the above,
your height, weight age and flexibility level
5'9", 180-5, 59 yrs young, flexibilty fair to good.
how far are you hitting wedge 6 iron, 4 iron, driver
I will just say under average on all of these unless I get a really exceptional connect. I hit a hybrid 4 about 150, just not hitting my driver at all to talk about distance, I am starting to lean more on 3 wood which I can probably averag 200, 6 iron just don't know, a good hit maybe 100 to 125.

I scored my lowest game today (94) but that was due mainly to playing good recovery but mostly to some great chips (the cupped wrist is great for pitch/chip shots) and putts. 2nd round shot 112 and shot 55 on my third front nine. I feel if I could get my driver in hand I could begin to shoot more consistently in the 90's. My driver is a TaylorMade 425 with the weights set at neutral. My clubs are new TaylorMades with a new MacGregor 3 wood and a Genex 3 hybrid. My hybrid 4 is a newTaylorMade Rescue with the weight technology set to neutral as well.

Played 54 yesterday and played 45 today with a 30 minute rain delay.

are you right or left handed, is the heel pad of your left hand on top of the grip? how wide is your driver stance, play fade or draw?

Yes, V in hand pointing to right ear/cheek.
how wide is your driver stance,
not wide, feet maybe 15 inches apart
                  play fade or draw?
Play to hit ball squarely for straight and long, play 3 wood off most tees on doglegs aiming just off the corner.

I also check my club face at address to ensure it isn't open or closed at ball but squared up.

seems like your downswing is over the top, I would strengthen the grip, check set up, swing back whie maintaing spine angle and then focus on swinging inside out. The cup helps you in chipping but not the full shot, because your path is off,

                          Re: the waggle and cup

                          can you expound on:
                          check set up
swing down while maintaining spine angle and then focus on swinging inside out. The cup helps you in chipping but not the full shot, because your path is off,
Now that makes sense because even when I get a fairly decent shot I am rarely feeling it hit the "sweet spot" as of late.

I've noticed that when I check for cock in wrist at set up I usually end up weighting the club to the "toe" which also results in my standing up more. My club then comes awfully close to the ground, often at impact sometimes kissing or hitting it.

I just saw the three ball exercise part of your email. I'm not sure what you want me to do with that.

Update: Good morning shootin. I played a good 18 yesterday. 1st, the waggle and cup has become routine for me at this point. In addition to this I began concentrating on keeping my right arm/elbow tucked into my side on my full swing and I began to get much better result hitting the ball straighter off the tee and more consistently making very good contact with the ball off the grass.

One thing I haven't figured out yet is why I still pull the ball on occassion when hitting off the grass. I would have landed on the green several times with my shots yesterday had I not pulled it.The other shots, well they were just a beautul thing to behold . And again I cannot overstate how well the cupped wrist continues to work on my pitching and chipping. It just adds so much control to the process.

(p.s. I also widened my stance just a little and began trying to concentrate on swinging around the body/spine. Oh, and also started checking my grip. I think this may be more of a culprit at times than I imagined. Hmmm, maybe I forgot to do that on those pulls,, don't know. I noticed I do have a tendency to get into my palm more on the left hand if I don't check it. Tried to ensure I was keeping it in the fingers).
