  • perfect compliment to RH drill

i have fount the perfect compliment to gregs rh drill and you dont have to spend a dime on gadgets or hook up funny spatulas to your hands

i was reading a golf magazine and this tip was in there

take your normal grip on the club now take your thumb of your left hand(for Righties) and put it on the back of your right hand

    if you dont get what im saying, heres a little more detailed(i think);

ok you know how your left thumb is under your right hand, ok well pull it out of there and move it to the right and putt it on the back of your right hand voila!!!!! you have a greg normans secret , you have the cure for shanks, you have the cure for bad contact !!!!!!!!

your thumb right there keeps that angle that is oh so important!!!!!!

it gives me a strong left hand, weak right hand grip but im hitting the ball so beautiful it amazing

i just take a few practice swings with my thumb like that, flip my thumb back in and swing and the ball it long high beautiful draw

ive even hit some birdie balls with that grip and it works perfect

Sounds pretty cool. I just tried it out with a half swing inside and I'll have to give it a try full swing tomorrow. Thanks for the tip

Re: perfect compliment to RH drill

ill try to find a picture, you dont actually play with your thumb still holding your wrist cup, you just do a couple practice swings with it and it stables your right wrist cup

                    Doogie,

Thanks! They say a picture is worth a thousand words; and IT IS!!

I tried your hint this morning on the driving range and didn't see much value. But after seeing the picture, I was doing it all wrong. I was taking my thumb over the top when in fact it comes in and from behind. I tried it after seeing the picture and it feels 100% different. I will try it tomorrow.

On a side note, after trying this move I pulled out my "Secret". It has always worked wonders for my swing. It helped me again today as usual. 15 minutes with this crumby little tool and it makes a world of difference.

I have heard others say that it feels so awkward during address and because of this they can't use it. I noticed something I am doing that I think will help. When I get setup with the secret on, it pulls back from my hand; that's okay. As soon as you start the backswing, just let the back of the secret contact your wrist and never let it leave contact after that. What a feeling.

Thanks again Doogie. I am excited now that I understand the drill. I will be "all over it" tomorrow. I can't believe I misunderstood how the drill was supposed to be used but like I said, pictures do wonders.

                    I'll get back to you....

i tried to explain it but now that link says it all

if the secret helps you then this will help you, its basically the same thing but alot easier, while on the course if you feel like contact is getting back just make a few swings like that and everything should straighten up

Re: perfect compliment to RH drill

I'm definately going to give this a try. Keeping the right wrist cupped has been one of the hardest things for me. I've got a David Leadbetter "the answer" but on a lot of my practice swings I pull it right off because my wrist is snapping forward. I'll let you know how it goes trying this thumb thing out.

Re: perfect compliment to RH drill

can this grip be used for an entire round b/c i have major cast problems that creep back every so often......i tried the grip in the house and it defenitely holds the right angle and its very comfortable.....

i recently strained my right wrist trying to work on keeping angle and it was a little uncomfortable....so i stopped

just recent i tried cupping my left wrist and the top of my backswing....this worked but some shots did go left

theres no reason why it cant be used for the entire round

i just use it in a few practice swings before every hit and it reminds me what to do

                              Doogkie,

I have made a couple of posts on this thread but I want to tell you what happened this week.

I took a weeks vacation and we went to Virginia Beach. I picked out two nice courses I wanted to play. The first round I played on Tuesday and shot my usual 96. I was hitting the ball fairly well, but had a couple of push-slices that wrecked my confidence. I had been plagued by them last season and it nearly ruined my game.

On Thursday, I played a second round. I was scared to death that the push slices would haunt me again. Since I had just started trying the tip you gave I decided to try it on the first few iron shots of this day.

I started hitting the ball so beautifully I couldn't believe it. I immediately regained my confidence and guess WHAT? I shot my LIFETIME RECORD LOW of a 84!!!

I ended up hitting all my iron shots through the rest of the round this way and never misshit one. Accuracy was 100% improved.

This bit of advice/tip you offered here is GOLDEN!!!

I just wanted to let you know how appreciative I am that you posted this tip and the accompanying picture. I don't understand why I have never heard of it before.

I don't know now if I should go back to my normal grip or not?? If someone saw me hitting my ball with this grip they would probably think I am nuts, but I am going to keep playing with it.

I'd like to know what you think of this. By the way, I think I owe you a few beers..haha
