    Simon,
It means if your grip is strong then you should have a small amount of cup in the left wrist at the top, if it is neutral or weak then keep a flat wrist, this will keep the clubface on line(yes, 45 deg to the ground)

In the above post I just wanted to show you that speed could come from another source, dropping the right/back shoulder down in the downswing.

Now I do not expect you to play that type of swing w/o training nor what I am going to show you, some angles need to be plugged in.

You go for instruction and they teach you to strecth the arms out in the backswing and here is what happens.

      1. Grab the driver and strecth the arms out at waist high in the backswing. Hold that Position.

      2. Now hinge the wrist back and forth from that position and you will see the club traveling on a horizontal semi-circle path.

      3. Now move the hands in and out.

What you are always searching for is a perfect position that you can bring the club back on each and everytime and if your muscles are tight or loose as the goose you may need to adjust.

      1. Strecth the arms out in the backswing, bring the elbow in towards the chest and allow the back wrist to hinge.

Now see if you can make a little semi-circle with the wrist or move the hands in are out.

Very little if any at all because you have lock your swing in.

By locking in I have found the natural plane and path for any type of body and we work on some angles.

No longer are you trying to find the swing path and angle, it has been keyed in for you and I tweak it from there.

Then you go directly into the backswing and the hands over the back shoulder.

The lead arm has angles that the grip produces and the weight of the club.

The back arm is like the face of the tennis racket, inside of the forearm up, lob shot in tennis, square/facing down the line and you it straight over the net, and allow the forearm to turn over and that is the tennis draw.

Same in the golf swing, but we are not limited to one arm since we grip the club with both hands.

Certain body parts will lock into place, the back wrist w/o being fully hinge and as I stated before, bring the driver up to waist high and the wrist will hinge back and forth. Swing back on a horizontal path and hold, now turn the shoulders around and you can not unhinge. That is true on all planes.

Stand up with your fingers out, thumbs up and turn the fingers to the ground and see if the wrist do not lock up. We do not want that action in the golf swing, yet many people allow that to happen when they grip the club when it is on the ground.
Jeez!! Do you actually teach people?
