Re: shoulder plane / tilt set up

My blind advice is to focus on keeping your upper body "behind the ball". What does this mean? A lot of things to a lot of people. First step is to make sure you are making a complete shoulder turn in the backswing with a good weight shift to the back foot.......back to the target and hands well inside the target line (back there behind your head). In the downswing, people describe "staying behind the ball" with certain "feelings". Feeling like your head is well behind the ball through the whole downswing......maybe even seeming to move backward while your lower body is moving forward. Getting your lower body moving forward and then rotating while delaying your shoulder rotation at the start of the downswing....feeling like your trying to hit the ball while your back is still facing the target (it’s not, of course)or trying to make impact with your shoulders still slightly closed to the target line....Feeling like your right shoulder is "rocking" down or moving under your chin rather than moving out to the target line. Feeling like the upper arms are sliding down the chest rather than pushing out and away from the body. Feeling the hands "dropping" from behind your head at the top of the backswing to close to your back hip and then moving out to the ball.

Please note these ideas are thoughts and feelings, not necessarily EXACTLY what’s happening. For instance, obviously your head will have to move forward in order to finish your follow through and you obviously you don’t hit the ball with your back to the target. Just some things to experiment with on the range while always staying in the context of SOLID fundamentals.

      Robin,

Seems like you are hitting snap hooks. Take a look at this article, it should help.

Re: shoulder plane / tilt set up

        Thanks Brian & Kbp

There are some things in the article and the post that really strike a chord and provide a basis for work.

Since old habits are difficult to fix I doubt if I'll be back next week with a "Hallelujah" post but I'll let you know how I get on; until then I'd like to hand the thread back to a discussion of Balance, Tempo and Rhythm - there was some good stuff being posted.

        Cheers

        Robin

          Robin,

just a final note! I suggest that when working on swing changes you do them in slow motion at the range for a while. This allows your muscle memory to absorb the new movements.
