    Re: Greg Norman's "secret"

His RHD didn`t work for me at all. Made things a lot worse and took a while to get back. But, everyone is different....so good luck

      Re: Greg Norman's "secret"

For those of you having trouble keeping the left wrist straight at impact and also on the backswing, I recommend the Swing Glove. It is a regular leather glove but is has a plastic insert that keeps the wrist from cupping backward. It allows a up and down (like shaking hands) motion but not back and forth modtion (like swatting a fly). I have never been a swatter but had some trouble keeping a straight wrist at the top of my backswing and it helped me a lot to fix that. So, I'm hoping it will work just as well for you swatters at impact that want to get the feel of a straight left wrist at impact. The Swing Glove is much cheaper (about $28) than other aids. By the way, when wearing the glove which keeps your left wrist straight, there is no choice but for the right wrist to be cocked. Yes, I'm a RH drill believer too.

It's improved my chipping accuracy a lot, but I simply don't understand it's use in the full swing - how can you release through impact with a cupped right wrist, surely everything should straighten out there should'nt it?
You are correct in your thinking. The secret can not be used with the traditional golf swing and traditional grip. In the golf grip, which is wrong to begin with, you place the club in your fingers. When you make a full swing and get to the follow through or the release, the right wrist will straighten out in line with the shaft. First question I have for you, and I am only trying to get you to think this through, is how do you hold a hammer, and ax, a tennis racket or a baseball bat. They are all in the palms of you hand, not your fingers. Why then would you hold a golf club in your fingers? Answer: Because that is the way you have always been taught. The secret can be used correctly if you place the club in the palms correctly. When you do so the rotation of the forearms are no longer necessary to make the golf swing. Try this and you will see exacly what I am talking about, your golf swing thinking will change forever. The majority of clubhead speed comes from the movement of the arms. Your body is the dog and the arms are the tail. The tail wags the dog, the dog does not wag the tail. The large muscles of the body support the motion, they do not produce the speed. Hope I have been some help, don't give the game up, just beware of the traditional teachings they will help you fail. bp
