    Re: Fundamental vs Peculiar

I have posted some of this before so please excuse me for repeating it again:

I often observe at the range or on the course people slicing, slashing, hacking, hooking, topping, swiping, swearing and slinging. I also see clean, effortless, coordinated, beautiful golf swings plus many stages in between.

The former tend to be the people who are either complete beginners or those that keep repeating the same old errors time after time until they resign themselves to the belief that they have to work with a faulty golf swing (that will stay and haunt them). The best players tend to be those that take regular lessons with a good coach and continue to improve by practicing the sound and proven fundamental principles.

Now, I don't suggest that everyone should become good golfers, it's up to them. Some have more natural ability than others and can learn quickly with little coaching. That is not the way for the average guy and gal though, they have to work hard, learn hard and practice until their hands bleed to break 80, there are no real shortcuts, its lots of natural talent and ability or the work house. Alternatively you accept your limitations and make the best of it.

Now I am an average Joe when it comes to natural talent and ability in sport, I have to work very hard to improve, this means two or three sessions at the range a week, a lesson once a month and two games a week. Otherwise I would be toast (I like that expression Greg). I spent a great deal of time in my early golf days working on the wrong things, making little progress, playing erratic golf, one game good and three bad with high levels of frustration. I only started to make inroads when I started to think positive about the game, took lessons, studied the great teachers like Hogan and King then practiced sound fundamentals so that I could repeat a reliable swing, even under pressure.

I am not talking theory here but hard work and dedication. Glyb comments do belong in the locker room along with those that believe there is some kind of shortcut or chaotic way to improve.

Sorry for the rant but at least its off my chest.

I am not in this war
martin, it was an interesting read and I hear what you are saying. Do i agree 100%, i am not sure, do I agree with most of it, pretty much. Once it got into the war I just skimmed though. BTW, I have seen your swing video, you have great impact alignments, seriously
