So, I try to actively avoid concious thought about the mechanics of my swing once I'm on course.

It's about going through the routine, settling over the ball and trusting, 100% committing to the fact you've got it right, then pulling the trigger...

I agree ... the routine is essential to me too.

Sadly, my routine is kinda long. Perhaps I'm the reason for packed courses

I don't avoid thinking about swing mechanics, though, I just keep it outside the routine.
