  • New Hot Swing On Tour

Got my new golf digest. In it they talk about the new hot swing on tour. One example is Aaron Baddley.

It's almost a reverse pivot approach. Essentially weight starts on the left side and stays on the left side, keeping you centered over the ball. At the top of the backswing your spine angles toward the target. Follow through your whole body release with a hip thrust at the end getting you back in a small reverse c position.

Basically it takes the weight shift out of the swing. Allowing your swing bottom to stay very consistent.

Andy Plummer and Mike Bennett are the instructors teaching this new method. At one point there new swing one 3 tournaments in a row.

Anybody else looked into this and your thoughts.

I was thinking of starting a post about that. Probably the worst thing the average player should try and copy. Most average players get their shoulders ahead of the ball on the backswing. Trying to tilt towards the target will only make this worse. If you look at the pictues in golf digest their shoulders are still behind the ball no matter where their weight is.

I've found that when I was swinging a club trying to emulate this without a ball.....I'm not flexible enough to pull it off. On the follow through I have to much stretching near my left peck.

I also found that it was harder for me to take as an agressive swing with what they were showing.

Re: New Hot Swing On Tour

I do not have a ton of knowledge of the workings of a "rotary" type swing. Maybe this isn't one of those swing types, but I thought it was After reading the article, and trying it a bit last night, I am pretty sure I will stay clear of it.

I can make the backswing, which is almost like making a left-handed follow-through (if you are a righty). Your shoulders get very steep and the club gets WAY inside. Left knee kicks way in, but most of the weight stays left. However, I can't get my body to swing naturally from that position. I think its easy to make the turn, but the downswing just seems to be rough.

I think this article could be death for some golfers who don't have a solid understand of golf to begin with....wait...does that include me?

However, I will say one thing that I do agree with in this article. For my 8i and under, I don't like to make a HUGE weight shift. When I do, my swing is shallow and I don't hit down into the ball. I like to leave a little weight on the front, and I set this up by starting with more weight on the front foot. I set up about 60-40 (left foot-right foot). It's something I started doing about 4 months ago. That, along with the RHD by Greg and proper right shoulder rotation, I have been hitting it pretty darn good.

I hope those with a better understanding of this swing and enlighten us all.

RH, can you explain more about the proper right shoulder rotation, bud? I have been working hard on this also - but could be doing it wrong. Would love to hear your input. Thanks.

Also, does the RightHand drill work with the driver swing as well? I brought the drill into play at the end today on my irons and finished +2 through 18.

Re: New Hot Swing On Tour

I have discussed this on other sites. This is really not anything new. Many of us have been pivoting without noticeable weight shift for years and years.
Its all about staying centered, completing the swing back, and light grip pressure.
                Not a new concept.
Many years ago, after fighting a sway that crept into my swing, I went back to my childhood golf teacher and he reminded me that I was taught to pivot not sway.
This has been my mantra ever since and well worth the effort.

Re: New Hot Swing On Tour

I have been practicing this swing and it has helped me out. Only thing is reconfig my ball position. The driver was hard to get use to, started out pulling the ball, but i have staightned that out. Also on the downward swing felt diffrent since they encourage putting alot of weight on the front foot, i had to get use to it since it would throw me off balance. I decided to switch to this swing since i had a bad case of the sway, and now i'm loving golf more and using my club membership. For those who know the concepts of the swing i would recommend, but for someone who has started i wouldnt cuz if the swing doesn't feel right to them it will just develop bad habits.

I just don't understand how you can rotate your hips? When I get into the same position as Aaron Baddley in the magazine, I find it impossible to make a solid turn. It just feels so funky.

I'd rather keep my swing the same just focus less on HUGE weight shift.

I think that is the same issue I was having when I tried.

I have a very quick lower body and hip turn. And my legs always proceed my upper body on the downswing. In their swing, everything starts at the same time. I think that timing is what is the issue with getting the hips rotated.

Re: New Hot Swing On Tour

Well, I tried this 'new swing' out as well as combined with the RH drill - the combination seemed to work out well. My ball flight was lower than usual, but the ball just soared through the air - and of course some added distance was noticeable.

Titling the spine on the backswing feels very wierd, very scary...but as long as I stay in the shot - I believe this could be the make of something very good and consistent.

Of course there are some things that need to be worked on, found some difficulty with the longer irons - so that's first on the list.

yeah it was very wierd in the few 10-20 shots i took. I experimented with the rotation of the hips and bumpin of the hips which screw up the swing totally. LOL i was getting a lot of odd looks at the country club range, especially from the pro giving lessons, but i am happy with my irons now i just have to figure out the yardage on my irons. The thing i have to get use to is putting pressure on the front foot to start the downswing im usually unbalanced threw the follow threw, but i rarely hit the ball fat.

I wouldn't take it to the extreme; everything in moderation. This is not a new technique, been around for decades and when done correctly, produces effortless power in a smooth, picture perfect swing.

Re: New Hot Swing On Tour

I have also read about this on the web site.

One of my long lasting problems have been hitting it high, i have just started up golf again after a long lay off(10 ys) so have had a few lessons, all of which go against the new tour swing.

I though i would give it a go over last few days, hit a few hundred balls.

Strike is a lot crisper, more consistant, same distance.

Feels very weired taking club back so far inside.

Can really get a feel for the leg drive, (feels like a shot putter winding up), it does make a lot of sense.

I hit a 3i of the deck on tee box, I nailed it not that far behind drive, best 3i I have hit, and thats with MP37s.

The thing is you just know it will come to an end and be left in the wilderness with a **** swing
