  • Standing Straighter Up Cause No Slice for Driver?

ok guys after a tournament i played in i got my slice on my driver back...now my driver swing is normally a very stood up stance...and a low backswing...now i went out and played nine (started with a little slice) and it kept getting a little more straight each hole because i was standing up straighter like i used to....and on hole 9 i did hit one perfectly straight (i aimed a little left to play the slice and it went where i aimed and had no spin effects except backspin)...

so listen to this and it may have been why i sliced (just a theory)

i play the ball closer to me in my stance.....and in which if i stand up straight that brings the club closer to me causing a good hitting line

no if i was bent over more but with the ball in the same position...then i should have been hitting with the ball further out but i wasnt...so could that have caused an outside in hitting line to cause my slice?...also i do like standing more upright because nothing contradicts in my backswing (chin doesnt get hit and i keep my head area much easier) thanks!

It could very well be that because you're more upright you're swinging much flatter and making better contact.

Hogan would say your chin SHOULD be brushing your shoulder...

        hmmmmmmmm

well i went out today...and im slicing again ..first few holes i actually hit a it to the left (but not hooking curve just to the left) and then i started slicing again...

i just want to know how to hit a draw or hook...just give me some ideas so i can find a center point between hook and slice...and please tell me the way to do it in your backswing..not the way of just closing your clubface before you hit...because i thing my backswing may be causing me to slice!

The way I have to avoid a slice is to keep the clubface shut during my backswing. It feels as though my arms and hands are dead.

OK, here are some specific thoughts. The more you stand up straight, the more shoulder turn you can get. If you don't believe me, stand up straight and turn then, bend right over so that your spine is parallel to the ground and try to turn the shoulders. Big difference.

Of course, if you stand totally upright in the golf swing, you've got no chance of achieving very much so you need some spine angle.

Based upon what you said originally, you could have limited flexibility meaning that when you bend normally, you then find it difficult to make a full shoulder turn. Just check the alignment of the shoulders at the top of the backswing, where are they pointing?

If your shoulders haven't turned properly and you're using your arms to complete the backswing, you are very likely to swing out to in, creating the slice.

sry i meant to say i just used to tuck my chin and hit it with my shoulder but i raise it a little more now..but what your saying is i should have my shoulder turned in my backswing?...maybe i am doing a full arm swing...because then when i swing my shoulders would be ahead of my arms causing a slice i see i see...so i may go take some pictures of me in my backswing "pose" just to see what everything is doing...i might make a targetline for my feet so you guys can tell me some stuff about it thanks...but as of now im just teeing off with my 3 iron and anything over 200 yards out is hit with a 4 iron lol ....and i have perfect control with those clubs...i can hit any iron i want for some reason probably because i work on them soooo much

now one more question..is a fairway driver supposed to be hit down into the ground like an iron to create the a lot of backspin or should i just hit more level? thanks!

I understand that fairway woods are more of a sweeping action compared to hybrids that you hit those like an iron (hit down).

I'd go no bigger than 640x480.

now see how in the last picture my club shaft is not parralell with the target...isnt that supposed to help a slice?...also if it was facing the left wouldnt it help cause a draw?

                          Put videos on youtube.

You're across the line at the top a little, yes - but this promotes a slice (it lends to casting, IIRC). I think that more cup in the right wrist will take care of that.

If you bend your right wrist like you're going to try to touch your fingernails to the top of your forearm, this is what I mean. Take your right hand back over the middle of your right forearm and it'll keep you from going across the line.
